  1. Beautiful even. DOd they come colored and if not, how'd you get the high parts different?
  2. You have done it again sir. Awesome work of art!
  3. Super cool. I made some huaraches.....nowhere close to as cool as these.
  4. We need updated pics of you in garb when you get the chance. I think this is awesome to follow along with and your work so far is damn sweet.
  5. I was at Lejeune (Lejeune, and Johnson) for 2 years and Cherry Point for two. Never got onto New River but drove past it a lot on the way to I-95.
  6. Looks clean! Too bad about that buckle though, I've had a few of those Levis belts and the buckle is usually was goes first, stupid spring/detent. But, you can always replace the buckle if it happens!
  7. That makes your work even more interesting to me. Thanks for the answer and the advice contained in it. Say hello to Camps LeJeune, Devil Dog, and Johnson for me.
  8. It is super simple. There were a few cooling cycles involved. Microwave for 20 second bursts until the wax melts and then add in the NFO, it'll cool in about 10-15 minutes, see how it feels to you, then add more NFO if you need to, repeat until it is the consistency you want.
  9. What I don't get about your stuff is how clean your wet forming is. Sewing, practice will get you clean, same with edges. Can you share how you get your impressions so tidy? I don't, and never do, see any rub marks or burnishing on any of your stuff. Your lines and creases are so straight and crisp. How? HOW DAMN IT!!!! :-) Another wonderful piece, by the way.
  10. I tried 50/50 but it was too hard so I added some NFO until it was a bit softer. I'm guessing its probably 25/75 by weight at the point where I felt it was easy enough to work with but still solid at room temp. Sorry that is subjective but I had to adjust as I went. I'll smear it on and then use a hair dryer to heat it until it absorbs.
  11. Cool. Post pics after it has all had a chance to settle in. I use a blend of neatsfoot oil and beeswax and it keeps the leather from getting too soft.
  12. If you have some heavy weed eater string, it may be stiff enough too.
  13. After you wear it for a while it'll loosen up a bit and feel less stiff even though it will be. I like this one better than #2 but they both look cool. I like the veg tan rigidity. There is a place for soft leather but I haven't found a use for it in what I like making other than making small pouches and such.
  14. Semper Fi brother! Thank you for you and your grandfather's service. My son is a submariner, well he's working his way through nuke school still, so not quite yet, but soon will be. @DRE66 that sheath looks great and far better than the factory sheath. Cleaning up the handle looks good too. Is it grippier than having the handle unpolished?
  15. I am really digging the lined pear shader for the whole piece, I think that extra texture looks great.
  16. Yep, beautiful! I thought your other attempts were pretty damn nice too, btw. I'm glad you are happy with it. I've been happy with very few pieces I've made.....there's always something I wish woulda been different.
  17. I never would've thought to pretty up a field notes cover like that but it works. Looks well done too.
  18. My main criticism is that it looks super 2D when airbrushing can make a sheet of paper burst out into all sorts of interesting 3D ways when done proper. This will work for a Halloween mask for wearing to work, but if I were going to try and do some other stuff and charge people money for it, I need to get a WHOLE lot better at it. And from my estimation, getting the airbrushing down looks way easier than trying to resist and dye, resist and dye, etc., to get desired results.
  19. @Sblades76 here are a couple of links in case the pics don't load: https://ibb.co/njfZYw https://ibb.co/gtbmfb https://ibb.co/gHmmfb Thanks for any suggestions and sorry for turning this thread into a help thread.... My main struggle is not seeing artistically. I can "put black stain onto leather" but getting a nice fade or seeing where to highlight and where to leave be is tough for me. I don't even know if that can be taught, the being able to "see" part of it.
  20. When I grow up, I want to work leather as cleanly as you do. Damn it man, that is another outstanding bit of work.
