  1. I tried to post a few pics but they are too large. I'll have to figure that out and then I'll take all the tips, tricks, and help I can get. Thanks @Sblades76
  2. Good luck with that....been about 4 years for me and I still have no direction. Its a good thing this is a hobby right now or else my business would have failed a long time ago. I'm loving going wherever the current takes me though.
  3. Good question, I've never thought of this, I kinda just jumped in and started cutting just making sure not to cut through. I've never paid attention to trying to maintain a certain depth. I do know that on the 3-5 oz stuff, I have a hell of a time cutting and stamping it so I usually just leave the thinner leather plain.
  4. Yeah, superior work as usual. It is beautiful being inside out too, good touch.
  5. Not only do those look great and strong but comfy too. I imagine that even though they won't understand why, they know it is.
  6. Yes, please show us the insides and backside. It looks really nice.
  7. As easy as it seems, I'm regularly shamed by my airbrushing....yours looks really good.
  8. I really dig that work. It looks great and meets the awesomeness of the gun. The complete one another.
  9. That's not the same stamp. The rays go all the way to the center and the one above is in a ring.
  10. Yeah. That is damn fine work. Like, stupid good. Outstanding!
  11. I have the Craftool (from Tandy) and some old unnamed awl and they both work. I really do want a Barry King though, mainly so I can see if it is that much better. I did have to put in a little effort to sharpen the Craftool one when it was brand new, but it was a good exercise. I would almost say to go with the cheaper Tandy stuff for right now. If you find you aren't into stitching then you are only out a few bucks. Advice on using the awl, get a stitching pony too. It makes all the difference being able to have both your hands. More often than I care to remember have I had a beautiful row of stitching on one side and then on the other side end up with what looks like an old farm fence, crooked as a witch's teeth. What appears as straight in your hands is not what appears straight when it is clamped and held firm.
  12. Wow....that is wonderfully executed and brilliant with the sweated pipework and all the wrapping. Greatness!
  13. I have several scary sharp knives and have yet to bust through a welt, even when used hard in the woods. If I was trying to get the sheath to perform some heroics then maybe I could get the knife to cut through it but that IMO isn't a sheath designer issue as much as it is the knife user realizing that a sheath is a safe means of carrying a knife and can only be expected to do so much. I don't get upset at my wife's Prius when it can't pull a 5th wheel trailer. Sure, you can over build the sheath but it can still be bested by a knife used in it in an unsafe manner. Unless you use metal, hardwood, or something as an inner sleeve. Even the rawhide could be compromised. I'm basically saying that if it comes down to a fight between a knife and a sheath, my money is on the knife alllll day. Just used to carry it around like its supposed to be, you should have no concerns although I do like the idea of the rawhide for an extra bit off toughness. Please post some pics when you figure it out. I'm super interested to see how this goes.
  14. You may want to peen that rivet down a bit more. It looks really good!
  15. That is cool as hell!
  16. Exquisite work. Super impressed with your skill and artistry.
  17. Dang dude, that is a really nice belt you made. It is super clean and the blue thread pops.
  18. Dude, post some pics if you get the chance. I'm interested to see how it is coming along. I'm glad something workable at least, is coming back. Sounded like you put some good effort into it and it sure would have sucked to have to see you scrap it.
