After seeing the pics I don't see too much of a problem. How far are you wanting the dye to go? As long as it goes deep enough to avoid surface abrasion and minor wear, it should be good. If it is for some high wear item, dye it multiple times. Also, dampening with water a little prior to dye may help penetration too.

Original and interesting. That would make a killer belt buckle.

Removing oil stain on tooled veg tan
battlemunky replied to Dragonfly42's topic in How Do I Do That?
Well, if you can't get it to match, it doesn't look too terribly bad. Can you try and wipe it down a bit heavier with OO on the other parts to try and match it? That is nice work and I know its gonna eat at you if you can't fix it but it looks really well done. That bull looks fully badass. -
Looks pretty cool man. Thanks for being a first responder, sincerely.

I think you may be using too many products at a time. Finishing is tricky and requires the one ingredient I have the least of....patience. Oils will interact with other oils/oil type stuffs and I think that perhaps the NFO may have undone some of the super sheen curing or something and made it gooey. I don't know if it can be undonr but at this point trying deglazer or Heet or 91% alcohol may be able to get rid of some of the tack, I just don't know if you'll be able to do much after that. I don't see it reversing things, just maybe helping remove the gloop.

Knife Sheath (Left Handed)
battlemunky replied to verus22's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
That compliments the knife very well, I think you succeeded in trying to match it all up. I can't believe that original sheath....they sold that too. -
Yeah man, looks great!

I generally like tighter stitching than that but you kinda killed it dude, those look great, especially the one with the wider spacing on the stitches. I love a dangler sheath too. I'm really liking looking at these two.

Leather finishing confusion is not an elite club my friend so rest well knowing that it has stumped, is currently stumping, or will be stumping more of us in the future. Youtube has a looooooot of finishing videos. The Tandy vids are ok but they are also marketing tools as well so take that with a grain of salt. There are some really good videos out there though so search on things like "leather dyeing techniques" "leather resist" and things like that. I wish you luck sir!

Some of my holsters
battlemunky replied to GunnyStewart's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Looks like some solid work there Gunny. I've only made one holster so far and I appreciate the effort you holster types put into it. I thought I had screwed mine up every step of the way until then end and it turned out pretty ok. Yours look clean and professional. Semper Fi! -
