  1. The issue is if someone claims credit for a "pin", the nature of Pinterest is finding and saving all types of cool stuff and does not in any way mean that you created the content. But yes, watermarking images in today's world is probably the best bet because stuff is constantly shared but it's easy to lose track of the origin. Case in point, I saw a really cool tattoo design that I wanted to use for leather work so I followed the links until I ended up at an origin site that had nothing to do with an artist so I gave up on using it since I like to get permission if its an original creation. I ended up "pinning" a few cool designs and my wife just made up an even better design based on the inspiration.
  2. Interesting, as mentioned, it might be a reaction with the eco-flo dye as was mentioned since my experience with Resolene is that it is one of the most water resistant finishes available with a high gloss. Stunning tooling BTW!
  3. Stunning work! Welcome to the site!
  4. I don't have experience with this but here is a video on making a pigskin lined item: https://youtu.be/yZKxHdNIiP4?t=3976
  5. Wowzers, that's going to be one expensive Bible cover...

    Good leather

I agree, I should clarify that I have only purchased tools and leather that is smaller than a full side from them. When I get some more cash flow I intend to purchase a full side from Wickett & Craig. The wife would prefer if I not blow all our cash right now. LOL. .
  7. You're welcome! I had just seen that item when perusing the Leathercraft Library so as soon as I saw this post I went a lookin'

    Good leather

Yeah I purchased a #1 pre-cut from them and felt that it was a #2 at best since it had an awl mark in a bad location but they just fully refunded the piece. Still a little irritating but I buy from SLC with confidence that they are good on their product.
  9. I'm not entirely sure but basically anything that isn't oil or dye will block dye, and that means any glue, gum trag, hard wax like beeswax, dirt on your fingers, you name it.
  10. I am still a newbie at leather, though I have sold about everything I have made to happy family and friends, but as a pricing manager for a 65+ year old hardware store I do believe that the story is important. Brand loyalty is worth a fortune so focus on excellent customer service and what makes you unique. There are a ton of people making products out there but if you want to command a good profit in today's growing hipster market, a godsend for leather workers, tell them why your product is awesome, or more accurately show them, beautiful photographs, presentation, website, etc, get them drooling over it, explain why you happen to also be awesome, traditional is becoming huge, and make sure you get as many reviews in plain sight as possible. The valuable retail market is swinging back to small brick and mortar and away from the big box and internet giants. Companies like Gerber are doing a full overhaul of their marketing, pricing, and packaging to place the emphasis on the small local guys and reaping huge profits. The account manager for all of Gerber USA explained it this way: The millennial consumer today depends on the following to make his purchase. Product recognition, often in the form of a video, movie, favorite blogger, extra. Online reviews, is it worth it, do other people like it, is it the best for the money, how was it made, where is it from, is it eco friendly, sustainable, etc. Purchase in person at a local dealer, preferably family owned, etc, he wants to see it on the shelf, handle it, talk to a knowledgeable salesman and complete the purchase journey by walking away with a quality product without buyer's remorse. My brother makes more than most the people I know and he recently told me that price is one of the last considerations when he is making a purchase that is meant to last. Relationship with the seller and confidence in the manufacturer are the biggest factors for him. And no, most of us don't sell via brick and mortar but places like Etsy, other higher end handmade places, or a really well built website are about as close as we can get. But at the end of the day. KNOW YOUR CUSTOMER. And never be afraid to charge what the product is worth, but make sure you explain why it is worth that. And let's be honest, a lot of customers will walk away, but if you want to make the whole handmade thing work out for you then don't race to the bottom of the barrel, the big guys will crush you.
  11. Something like this? https://www.leathercraftlibrary.com/p-1220-shotgun-case-and-bird-bag-pattern-pak-2691.aspx
  12. Sorry I don't have much to spare but Springfield is running a nice sale on scrap leather. http://springfieldleather.com/Leather/Scrap-Leather/Remnant-Clearance
  13. Thanks again! I just realized The Buckle Guy beats every price I have seen for Fiebings Pro Dye and that is without wholesale pricing. $5 for a 4 oz is my kind of price.
  14. Outstanding work! May I ask how you liked the Main Thread? And have you compared it to Tiger?
  15. Actually I guess that price isn't too far off. About $8 per square foot though that seems a little cheap for premium french imported leathers.
  16. Hey NVLeatherworx, have you ever purchased leather from them like their French tooling sides? They look too cheap to be legit? Thanks!
  17. Not to argue but the label on the hide says made in Italy so I dunno... Thanks for the tip, I'll check out the Hide House. :-)
  18. As a new leatherworker I am not an expert on quality but it is nicer stuff than the #1 Hermann Oak precut that I got from Springfield and when purchased on sale it isn't a terrible price. Tools and dyes beautifully and has nice soft smooth finish to it. I did hunt around for a different supplier but I really don't know what to call it. It's from Italy but that's as much as I can figure.
  19. I do like this stuff from Tandy but it's not cheap. https://www.tandyleather.com/en/product/roma-single-shoulders
