Yeah that! I've done holsters then dyed them and the 277 bonded nylon took the color of the dye.

Well thank you Jim. I do build a few holsters. It is more a busy hobby for me than a business. The RC stands for Rainshadow Crafters as we are in the rainshadow of the Olympic mountains. I mainly build for local customers as I don't have an inventory of blue guns, and use their gun for molding.

That leather looks pretty "furry". Don't know what would get it to slick up. I tend to go with Hermann Oak because it's usually not hairy on the inside. Good luck.

Before I upgraded to a belt slot punch I did the wood chisel thing. I went to harbor freight and bought a set for about $10 that up to 2" if I remember right. Did a good job too. My dedicated punch now is a weaverleathersupply.com 1 3/4 belt slot punch. Spendy, but very nice. I occasionally touch it up on the buffing wheel to keep it slick. I also had the good fortune to find an older Tormek grinder a few years ago on Craigslist for $125. The honing wheel is worth the price. All my chisels have a mirror edge.

A machine is not always the answer for thick leather. I have sewn welts this thick with my class 3, but you really have to pay attention. Sometimes it's just easier to break out the awl! Sometimes I've taken an old #25 needle, put it in my drill press, and used that to punch (no drill!) my holes. Worked pretty good. Just make sure it stays lined up. Nice job by the way!

My guess is there was shoe polish on there first. Can you really get it all out? Don't really think so. I tried that early on and found it wanting. All fiebings now. Tankote isn't bad, but I prefer resolene 50/50 with water. But, all kinds of choices there. I have resolene and tankote. BUT, nice looking holster! Good work.

Always room for improvement isn't there. I think I saw a "close quarters" beveler from BK maybe. Was supposed to be good for belt loops. I can't get them right either. I do the sides and burnish the heck out of the tops.
