  1. I'm with Handy Dave and Chuck here. I mostly do one off, custom holsters for local customers. It's more a busy hobby for me than a business. I charge what I consider a premium for my work (but not really if you look around). I use only Hermann Oak leather, only pro dyes. I have invested a pretty good amount into my little shop to make it enjoyable for me. I have several customers that have 2-3 holsters of mine. And more that are referred to me. I try to do my best on every one because I want to! I run an add on Craigslist, I tell the price upfront in my response to enquiries. If it's too much, I can live with that. Go buy Uncle Mike's, maybe it won't fall out....
  2. Nice work!

    A New Quiver

Pretty nice. I gave some old leather to a grandfather last Xmas to make quivers for his grandkids. Got a great thank you out of it. Looks good!
  4. Looking good!
  5. Very nice!
  6. Thanks, pretty much like my Kbar came with years ago.
  7. Dyeing the little spot you missed and it bleeds into the white thread....
  8. Cool, really like it.
  9. Nice work. Welcome to the forum!
  10. It's been a busy 2 weeks. I've done a shoulder holster, a pancake for a Kimber, and a chest rig for a 7.5 in 44 mag ruger that I didn't post because it was a repeat of one I did for a 480 ruger, same bear on it and everything. But, when the guy came to pick up the 44 chest rig, he asked if I could to a sheath for an old knife. This is an old (we're guessing WW2) knife. Bakelite handle, U.S.N. on one side, and Colonial Mk1 on the other. It's in really good shape, and very sharp. It also has a very nice patina, no rust, must be stainless. I'm thinking aircrew? Anyway, did a sheathwith USN on the front. Seems appropriate to the age.
  11. I wrapped the gun in the heavy plastic you use when you move. Then run the holster under warm water, shove the gun in where it needs to be. I have a vacuum set up, harbor freight pump and 26 mil bag that i use initially, but it's mostly buy hand as it dries.
  12. Yeah, the nail worked great, didn't cut as much as pierce like an awl.
  13. Thank you. I do enjoy the process. This is the third holster for this customer.
  14. Another pancake holster. I have to admit I'm getting a little bored with this color scheme but, people seem to like it so I keep building them in this dark brown/light brown color. Going to get some blue, red and green dyes and try that. Did a double layer matching belt for this as well. All the same but 8/9 top and 5/6oz back. Hermann Oak 8/9 veg tan Fiebings dark brown and light brown Resolene 50/50 w/ water finish 277 bonded nylon top and bottom Cobra class 3 Dang I like this pistol!
  15. Going to have to try that lining idea! Good call. Looks great, welcome to the site.
  16. Yeah, the sun is going to give that a very nice color.
  17. Very nice! It's a shame about the snap. I originally used a 4 penny nail in a drill press that I file to a point. Just about the perfect size for larger thread.

    Tallybook

    Very nice Frodo.
  19. Ended up convincing him the belt loop was a good idea. Added as Dwight described.
  20. Thanks Dwight, we discussed a belt keeper and he voted against it. I think it's a good idea, but we'll see. Also not a big fan of elastic, but he saw and old rig that had it and thought it was needed. I had it around from suspenders. Not really a bad thing though, all considered. Constructive thoughts that are appreciated. Thank you.
  21. My neighbor asked me to make a shoulder holster for his S&W Tactical 40. I have been avoiding these things, but, it was time to bite the bullet and try one. HO 8/9 for the holster, HO 5/6 for the rest, doubled on the bottom part. 277 bonded nylon throughout, resolene 50/50 on all. Nowhere near perfect, but I think it's a pretty good start. The conchos allow for some movement between the top and bottom. Big shout out to J.Roscoe shoulder holsters for the idea of the conchos. Still a ways to go. I compressed the photos, but still could only load 2. And that's 1in elastic across the back.
  22. Pretty cool. The zombie apocalypse is nearer than you think!
  23. Love the contrast. This is going to cause you (and probably me) a lot of thought on how else to use that technique.
  24. Welcome to the addiction! I agree with all of the above. We've all been there.
