  1. My son got this Sig, one of the Legion series in 45acp. Wanted to do something different than lightbrown on dark brown. Tried many variations of the flag and decided that less is best. But, now I have a lot of paints... Hermann Oak 8/9 277 bonded nylon top and bottom Cobra class 3 Angelus navy blue stain and fiebings light brown 50/50 resolene and water 1st, with 100% resolene 2nd
  2. That is just outstanding. Very nice work.
  3. Leatherstampmaker.com did mine. Cost is by the square inch, brass, very good quality. I also had 2 made for local golf courses i make custom logo'd stuff for. Not sure of the price now, but i remember a poker chip sized logo being around $100. The detail is amazing. I believe they are a sponser here as well.

    Tooled a belt

Very nice Walter! I think I have that book.
  5. Welcome! Look forward to seeing your work.
  6. I had this happen a lot when I first started. Almost always caught on something... Changing thread should not have that big an effect.
  7. Nice job! I've done a few thick welts. Always a challenge, but dang they look nice.
  8. Going to stick my neck out here. Maybe not striker fired, but you get the point. I have made several holsters for striker fired weapons, my own included. You can make a holster that has very good trigger protection and retention. Some say a reinforcing piece is not needed. I agree, but I like them to add a bit of rigidity and a place for tooling and contrast. I also would add, it would be very difficult for this to cause an inadvertent trigger pull. I get most of my retention from the trigger guard on the back of the holster and a bit from the ejection port. The guns literally click when they seat. Add the tension of the belt and wearing the holster, you have to "mean it" when you want to draw the weapon. As far as "boiled leather", I think of Roman leather armor. Might have been a thing, but my wet molded holsters are very rigid and hard. Hope this helps.
  9. Well done!
  10. I use an Arrow P35 with 3/8" staples. 2 staples work well.
  11. I have a class 3. I run primarily 277 top and bottom. Lots of oil, every time I wind/change a bobbin and sooner if I haven't used it in a while. Place a towel over the foot controls. These drip oil onto the pedals and will loosen the rubber. Wetting and tapping down the stitches helps reduce the needle hole size and marks from presser feet. Too bad they don't ship a bucket full of patience with these things. If anyone has helpful tips for sewing lightweight materials I'm all ears.
  12. I've heard of others using other acrylics. I have Angelus too and not entirely pleased. I'll have to try the local hobby store.
  13. Very. Cool! Just getting into colors here.
  14. Very nice!
  15. Yeah that! I've done holsters then dyed them and the 277 bonded nylon took the color of the dye.
  16. Welcome! You'll find a lot of good info here.
  17. Nice jobChuck! I'm a lefty but right eye dominant.
  18. Well thank you Jim. I do build a few holsters. It is more a busy hobby for me than a business. The RC stands for Rainshadow Crafters as we are in the rainshadow of the Olympic mountains. I mainly build for local customers as I don't have an inventory of blue guns, and use their gun for molding.
  19. That leather looks pretty "furry". Don't know what would get it to slick up. I tend to go with Hermann Oak because it's usually not hairy on the inside. Good luck.
  20. Before I upgraded to a belt slot punch I did the wood chisel thing. I went to harbor freight and bought a set for about $10 that up to 2" if I remember right. Did a good job too. My dedicated punch now is a weaverleathersupply.com 1 3/4 belt slot punch. Spendy, but very nice. I occasionally touch it up on the buffing wheel to keep it slick. I also had the good fortune to find an older Tormek grinder a few years ago on Craigslist for $125. The honing wheel is worth the price. All my chisels have a mirror edge.
  21. Nice job! I was using 7/8 then went to 8/9 when the 7/8 became more 7 than 8..... I also like like a "reinforcing piece on the front as well but, that's a whole 'nother topic...
  22. I use photo puma to shrink my pics. Fast and free.
  23. Nice!
