We'll need more info like what stand, motor, reducer & a pic wouldn't hurt to see the condition.

The 331 is similar to a 335 in the fact the feed dog doesn't lift the material off of the needle plate when it goes back. This creates alot of drag esp in sticky materials like vinyl & leather & will cause the length to shorten. You could have some worn feed parts, lift the foot up & push the needlebar front to back & try the feed dog too to see if there's any play. The 331 a needlefeed & looks like the 335.

Question's about Adler 30-1 serial number and stitch length
CowboyBob replied to Oldiesfan's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
@WizcraftsIt will help your foot lift if you grind alittle off of the top of the foot(the comes in contact when the regulator is all the way down) so it doesn't hit the stitch regulator. -
He'll need a machine alot heavier than this one to sew tack, all this can sew as long as it's not dried out would be 5/16"
-
As long as the Adler has the rubber timing belt it would be a better choice w/reverse & the handwheel is larger & it will run slower than the 211.And would sew 138 easier than the 211.

Hey Bob ,I just got the samples you sent , they fit & work great!

@wyattuphaus Sounds like you might have something caught in the shuttle, take it out & clean it & re-install & oil the groove it rides in & report back.

In the pic above it looks like the point of the hook isn't close enough to the needle. And once in a while the needle hole in the needlebar gets elongated (on the leftside)from repetitive tightening of the needle . I've seen where the needle actually looks crooked when tightened if that's not the case here you should loosen the hook saddle & move it to the left..

@groundyThe correct # for the cloth type is #235003(which is hard to find) or #224195 like Constabulary said for the rubber one.

CowboyBob replied to CowboyBob's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
They sew similar materials but the parts don't interchange between them. -
If you loosen the needle set screw how far does the needle move left to right?

No that is the same, the 156 has another button on top.Like I wrote on FB either the belt is on wrong or the cams aren't in the slot on the bottom shafts.
-
Still adjusts the same, the only difference is the 156 has a push button to adjust the height of the foot walk on the top.
-
@jsfarm 211g165 manual.pdf There's 2 -ways to adjust the machine to feed in reverse, first check that the timing belt is installed correctly as shown on page #24 in this manual. If not when you adjust it so it is you'll have to re-time the hook.
-
@shazbaz There's a service info on the 111w in this file, you have to scroll some to find it. Navy_Repair_manual_on_31-15,111w,199_zig-zag.pdf
