  1. Best bet is to get the Al Stohlman making cases vol. 1. There a 3 books in all and worth getting if you plan on making more than one thing. They are dated as to style but the way and mechanics are solid and will serve you in making many different items.
  2. If you look under the notch in the belt loops you can see the smooth out reinforcement panel.
  3. I have the black ones. Haven't tried the economy ones. I know a few members make punches from wiring conduit.
  4. Beautiful as always Dwight.
  5. I have the ones from Tandy any they work well. You have to clean up the edge but from what I've heard you need to on the Osborne too.
  6. Use card stock for your pattern paper or the flimsy place mats at the dollar store. Are you talking about clothes patterns? Or are you talking about tooling patterns? What are you making?
  7. There is a stamp maker in Bulgaria I believe who is a member and has an Etsy shop. He might be able to make you one or has one similar. They are reasonably priced as well. I wish i had a few.lol Other members who have them like them.
  8. I agree about putting up again. If it's initials or a name somewhere in the world someone has the same name or initials.lol How many people have you met with the same name? Heck my name is Matt Smith. I have to deal with stuff all the time with my CDL. Proving nope that wasn't me.
  9. I burnish dye and then put a coat of beeswax/parifin wax mix on the edge and burnish again.
  10. Idk about machines at all! There is a section here just for them that you can get answers about that. But saddle stitching isn't to hard in that it's just repetition. There are tutorials on here and YouTube on saddle stitch.
  11. Tandy has fake sheeps wool pads that work fairly decent.
  12. I can tell you from my old tool belt I see you learning to saddle stitch.lol A heavier oil tan leather would work nice for the pouches. 7/8 oz. The belt I would do two layers of 5/6 sewed flesh to flesh. Give you a nice sturdy belt that would last years. Plenty of info in dif places on this site. I know I've seen a few tool belts on here. So can probably get some other opinions and maybe a pattern. Good luck.
  13. I'm thinking harbor freight ones not the "best" steel.lol
  14. Sweet!
  15. You could always go to Harbor Freight and get a set of punches and cut them all in half and you would have a she set for different sizes. Cheap enough and do it with a grinder probably.
  16. The guy that posted the video is the maker of it. It seems pretty common in English saddle making from what I've read.
  17. It's a half round punch probably. You can cut a round punch in half or I THINK Weaver sells half round punches.
  18. Got the Tri weave decent but jacked up the border stamp. I just seem to have a problem with them.lol 3 oz inside and out. .8 Tiger at 6spi. Tan antique gel Eco Flo.
  19. 500gr seems to be a common EU weight for mails. Round numbers are easier.lol Here they would be 17 oz or 1 lbs 1 oz. I prefer metric for measuring as opposed to imperial even though I'm in the US.
  20. I agree with Ron. The tolerances can run pretty tight and like you said don't want to waste leather.trimming a 1/4 inch off edge is a lot less waste than a square foot or more.
  21. Man I wish I still lived in Wautoma instead of Colorado Springs. I would have definitely taken you up on the clicking offer.
  22. I think Latigo would work best. Especially as it would be near water occasionally. Lol
  23. 1lbs is good for tooling. Some prefer. 2lbs. Punching stuff you will want 3lbs. IMHO. There are many that still use a light weight poly mallet. It's all in what you learn with and is comfortable for you.
  24. Just a FYI he has an Etsy shop too. With 799 good reviews.
