  1. https://www.etsy.com/shop/VintageStudioShop These seem well made and have good reviews. I have found Esty has good shipping rates. We jave shipped stuff to Spain,Austria, and Italy through etsy cheaper than across the US when not using Etsy shipping.
  2. Custom makers will always cost more for better quality. Import stuff is generally worth what you pay. Tandy stuff is priced high for the quality. I bent a Craftool camo stamp last weekend using a yellow poly mallet. Not hit hard either. Don Gonzolas has a video on his youtube on mauls mallets and hammers that is worth watching before you spend any money. Barry King tools are great just wish i could talk wife into letting me get some. Handled them at Sheridan and tbey are QUALITY TOOLS.
  3. Probably just very thin chrome tanned leather. (Garment/upholstery leather) Ian Atkinkson has a video on doing turned edges.
  4. It's not cut weird. It stretched from stamping. You have to back it with packing tape or rubber cement it to a piece of cardboard to help stop it stretching.
  5. Looks good. People like to know what your using when you make stuff. Leather weight, what you did to dye or paint. That kind of stuff. Have fun.
  6. Pretty much impossible to stop it. The back is so porous that it just soaks it up. Going with a different color you probably be off using a cloth lining. You could try dying the interior first but I still don't think that would work.
  7. I'd say you will need 2 sets just to be safe. I've found I either use my 8spi or my 6spi. And I either use 1mm or .8mm Tiger thread. I have 10spi but don't use them. Looks to close for me.
  8. Where did you get the leather from? Pictures might help. I got some veg tan pigskin from Tandy that wouldn't dye and I returned it.
  9. As to dye transfer I let dye dry for a day or two. Then punch my stitching holes. Then top coat. Dry another day. And last is stitching. Then my edges. The wrinkling is always an issue unless on piece is slightly smaller do to stretch and compression. But then it won't lay flat if corners are not pulled up. Picture would help.
  10. DEGLAZER. A little goes a long way. Can get a 4 oz bottle at Tandy for a col bucks.
  11. First ever spur straps. Got "tack" pattern pack from Tandy. Nothing to fancy. Had to buy a set of spurs so I could try them out.lol
  12. What brand are they to start with? If you look at Tandy they have sets and show how to use.
  13. I like the way it looks. Would like it even better with copper burr rivets.lol Is it glued too or just rivets?
  14. I use Tiger thread. If you do the math on a 500 meter spool it's. 03 a METER. I quit using Tandy stuff after using it twice. It's way to waxy for me.
  15. He has a video up on YouTube showing it.
  16. Preach Brother!lol I does get frustrating when one project turns out the way you wanted and the next one isnt even the same color!
  17. Dont put on the "rough" side of leather. Use a little not a lot it will make the leather soggy and soft. When you put it on set it aside for a day or two and let it "soak in and level out". Once again a little goes a long way. And ifyou put on leather and leave in the sunlight it will be just like putting Hawaiian Tropic on your hide and sitting on the beach.lol
  18. In the click to choose files. It has to be a small file though. If using a phone email it to yourself and resale pic it should be small enough then or a photo re sizer app.
  19. Definitely! My first holster and one I made 6 months later.
  20. Ahh British. My wife says Ta and it confuses people here in the US. Here it's short for good bye.lol
  21. How are you marking out your stitching? Are you using an awl or stitching chisels? A marking wheel or even a kitchen fork can be used to mark the stitches evenly. You can also use dividers and "walk" them down your stitch line. Also watch Nigle Armitage and Ian Atkinson videos on hand stitching. Like I said good start though.
  22. The maker of that video is also on this site. He has a saddle making school in Scotland. I like his style of video making. Rough and ready not artsy.lol
  23. Speaking to the awl I've seen them on Reddit. Someone said the were $300!
  24. Some more pics would be helpful. Back and edges. Overall looks like a good first go. Better than mine.lol
