  1. Went to habitat for humanity restore yesterday. Got a 18X18X2 granite cutout for $3.50. They had pieces as big as 4 feet long.
  2. It has worked for me so far. Just make sure you cut it 50/50 with water.
  3. The one with pegboard at my hb is real flimsy looking and feeling. I'm gonna get some wine corks and put in the holes of the dog holes in my woodworking bench from hb. But I do find myself putting some tools like my slicker in the holes so I don't roll off. It's my only bench and only space so far. So it gets cutting boards, cardboard, and whatever shifted on it and off as needed for the step I'm at. Just starting out it works good but someday would like a bigger space and benches. Just gotta wait for the kids to move out.lol
  4. Me too I have many projects going at once so I don't have to rush. I used 1mm white Tiger thread. And thank you.
  5. A simple tote. Chrome leather with veg tan straps. Straps left natural and unburnished per the wife. She is the Bag lady.lol I say simple but it's a bit of a pain trying to get it in a workable place in my pony. And going around the curves is challenging. I didnt want to try and glue as any excess would show and was ascared of trying to rough it to give the glue a tooth.
  6. Also. Only leave the clips on the corners long enough to form it or the will mark the cornerns. If you want smooth on both sides glue to 3/4 pieces flesh to flesh. The ones with screws, snaps, rivets or whatever you want are generally not formed and held in shape by them. For being able to lay them flat as "travel" valets.
  7. Thank you. I guess I'm gonna have to buy fabric now.lol.What material works best? I'm assuming a synthetic one glued down to the entire main body panel and stitched. Thank you. 8. Cut a square of leather 2 inches bigger than the size you want. ie 6×6 interior cut 8X8. I like them rough on the out side so I don't glue pieces flesh to flesh. I use 8/9 leather. Stain and let dry well. 2 days if dip dyeing is what I do. Dip in warm water for 5 to 10 seconds. Pinch the corners together. I use binder clips to hold for a bit and let dry. Finish with your top coat of choice. Will be stiff and hold its shape like a wet formed holster.
  9. Thanks. I haven't got one yet. Been looking online for one. I saw Ian Atkinson from Leodis Leather in Leeds did a review on one for stamping and embossing that looks promising.
  10. New also but it looks to me like just one piece folded 2 ways. 2 circlesupers on the top and narrows dow. Ik that don't help you but just have to keep drawing till you get it. Look at Tboice wall he might have something similar he draws and posts a lot of patterns. Good luck I go through a LOT of paper.lol
  11. .08 Tiger with a Tandy Pro stitching chisel. I debated trying to slick the back or lining it. It was basically a test run on a template and something never built before. Some people use tan kote to slick back down too I read but not sure how well that works either. Still new to all of it.
  12. Got a template for a long wallet. I think it turned pretty good. It has a zipper pouch too but I didn't have a zipper. Soooooo. lol. It's 4/5 for the out side and 3/4 for the intereior.
  13. I have the bench too. Works great. If you don't cover the surface with cutting mats plug the holes in top or stuff falls in the drawers. And you HAVE TO put the top drawer in before bottom drawer or it won't fit.I am gonna take the clamp apart and put leather on it like a stitching pony.
  14. Update.... Tried cleaning with deglazer and it seemed to take a coat of something off but still wouldn't dye. So I took it back to Tandy and got my money back.
  15. Fiebings Tan and light brown. also 50/50 and full strength. and for giggles fiebings mahagany antique paste and economic flow black antique. Also cleaned with Barkeepers Friend.
  16. Yep. Looking on tandy website it say can be dyed and tooled. BUT when I drop a piece in boiling water it doesn't shrivel. I think it's chrome tan.
  17. I got some natural pigskin from Tandy to do some light weight wallet intereiors. It doesn't seem to take any dye except the Fiebings Pro Black. The back get dark but not the grain side. Even the black seems "blueish". Tried different colors and dip, dauber, full strength and 50/50. Any thoughts other than don't use pigskin or buy from tandy? Cuz already did both.lol
  18. My wife also vetoed the style strap I was putting on a bag. Belt style one. So now my 9 yr old daughter is stamping and sewing it for herself.
  19. Thanks. Being in Colorado Springs Sheridan is about 9 hrs and Prescott is 11hrs or so by car. So will check out both and see which one works best for us. It will be a "vacation" because I don't do sitting around on a beach or tourist kinda stuff.
  20. I started leatherwork a couple months ago. Wife and I are looking at going to either Prescott AZ or Sheridan WY to a trade show. As a hobbiest are these good or are they geared to the full time business person?
  21. Tomorrow only Amazon Prime is $20 off. $79 for a year. Just saying.lol
  22. Saw a YouTube video about a year ago with the Israeli military using a holster like that. They don't carry with one in the chamber. Dunno if that helps or not.
