I know this thread is old but it is better to use an old one than a new post right. I would like like to see if someone has this pattern from Tandy in pdf form. I cannot seem to find it anywhere. I tried printing out the pictures and you have to put it under a microscope to read it. Thanks, Brian

Brianm77 replied to PhillyRock's topic in Old/Sold
I want too but my wallet says NOOOOO! If I did not already have a Dremel tool, I would be all over this. that is a good price -
I have not tried it yet myself, but check out the Makers Leather Supply video on youtube about their edge paint. he talks about a lollypop edger that he got off of Etsy that may foot the bill for what you (op) are looking for.

I would have thought the other way around, but that is exactly why I asked.

It sure seems like a lot of them get sold on etsy she has kinda a short attention span, so I was thinking they could be mocked out pretty quick compared to most leather projects. I think it would do her good to get a couple quick completed projects under her belt. I also had some quick bracelets or something in mind.

So I have another question. Is there any kind of finish she should stay away from? My wife tried to make some last year and six months later they are discolored. She bought the cheep stuff from Hobby Lobby. I mean stearlung silver, stainless, plated brass. Or is it just the difference in cheep sterling silver vs better sterling silver? i just went and looked and the cheep stuff the wife bought only says nickel free.

Yes it is very small. I did not think it would show up in a picture but I will try tonight.

Hey guys, a couple years ago I bought a side of chrome tanned leather from Tandy. When I got it home I noticed kind of a checkering on the back. Every since I have wondered what it was and what caused it. I have since seen the same thing from others and still want to know what it is. I thought I would post here and maybe someone could enlighten me.

Thanks guys! I got some stuff to look at.

I have ordered a bunch of stuff from Ohio Travel Bag in my budding leatherworking hobby. I am glad you said something, I did not think of OTB for ear ring parts and I will keep y’all in mind. However this post was more about getting some insight on others experiences.

Good morning all, my daughter is of the driving age. She has a medical condition that keeps her from driving, and it will be really difficult for the wife and I to get her to anykind of job while she is in school. She has at least a slight interest in leather and other crafty stuff. Me being dad and trying to help as much as I can, I had a thought. There are leather ear rings all over the interwebs. Some of them pretty simple and could be made pretty quick. I thought we could get into this pretty easy and cheep. I would let her deside how much or little to put into it. And if her attention span get the better of her then we can just quit and we won’t be out much. Last Christmas the wife tried to make some and it did not go very well. She found some of the hook parts on amazon probably the cheapest ones. We ruined almost as many as we made. And even the ones that turned out did not look like very good quality. I figured I would post on here and see if some of you could link me up with some quality hooks. Or even some place to shop that does not sell junk. And if you can’t tell I don’t know the terminology to really search for or really how to identify good stuff looking at someone’s web sight. Please help, Brian

I have a set of the stitching irons. I use them like chisels in that, on thin stuff I punch them all the way through. They are very good quality. I also have a similar size saiwa brand I was trying something new. You get more angle on each stitch but the thread fills up the hole better on the Japanese ones so I am undecided on which ones I like better.
-
So I believe I savvy, but just to make sure I come up with this real quick only free hand so don’t critique to hard on the craftsmanship lol. First hole right next to the top of the t-slot and then a slightly larger stitch were the two pockets come together? I have played with patterns quite a bit. Everything I have tried so far has had a hole we’re the two come together which seems to spread the pockets out slightly or a very tiny sliver at the bottom of the t-slot and the top of the other pocket wich results in the two ripping from the hole to the edge when pulling the thread tight.
-
You might look up this guy on Instagram, coming from China may be better than from the states. He really makes some good quality stuff
-
Well that is good stuff, I guess what I really mean is prong right in between the t-slot and the pocket below it(which seems to want to spread the two apart slightly). Or the line were the two meet right between 2 prongs wich makes the bottom of the t-slot and the top of the pocket have a very small distance between the hole and the edge (wich sometimes rips when pulling the thread tight)

I know how I have been doing it, but I would like to hear how you guys pick the number of stitches and the spacing when hand stitching a wallet with T-slots thanks, Brian

Cast or machined should both do the job reliablely for many years. If you had them machined your local machine shop or even a local fabricator should be able to make them from a drawing on a sheet of paper with dimensions. If you can’t seem to find one, I can put you in touch with one in central Texas that would be glad to help. He makes machine parts for me all the time and starts with nothing more than a sketch with dimensions. If if you want to have it cast, you could try some of the forums on the interwebs. The are several deticated to foundry work. There are a lot of guys out there with foundries in their back yard that do it for the fun of it more than anything else (and beer money). I have also seen a lot of knife makers on knife forums with foundries also. Something else that may help in your search, you could beef up your mold a little and have it made out of aluminum. Aluminum has a lot lower melting point and is easier to machine if you need to sand down to get the pits out or round over corners etc. hope that helps, Brian

I would also be interested in wallet dies when either of you decide you are ready to sell.

I use stitching chisels. I started off with Aisker (not sure if I spelled it right) I got off amazon. I have been pretty happy with them. They were $15-$20 a set. I now have since bought some craft-sha and siawa brands from GoodsJapan. They are nice, and quit a bit more (about $15 to $28 each). But I still use the first ones I got from Amazon. They are well worth what I spent on them.
