I am new to the sewing machine world. A consew 226 has come up for sale in my area. It sounds like the fella that is selling it was not the user and does not know much about using one. I would mainly be looking for one for wallets and 12oz or so belts. From the little research I have done it seems like this will be a good machine. I am looking for the experts opinion. one question I have is I primarily use .8mm thread now, I would like to continue to use a similar size thread. Will this machine work with that big of thread? I have not done the research yet into the mess of machine thread sizes so I am not sure what that equates to. anything I should look for in a well used 226? thanks in and Vance, Brian

he also has a newer one of I believe his own design and a complemantary tutorial on youtube. makers leather supply has a template I believe to make one out of chap leather and one of his Monday night videos to go along with it.

Looking for a vertical wallet pattern
Brianm77 replied to PalmieriLeather's topic in Patterns and Templates
that is how that template is. the outer is one piece. the inner/hidden pockets are one piece with a thin strip that connects them at the top and bottom. and then the card slot pockets. I have never understood the thin strips, I don't like em and I don't do them. when I was cutting out the pieces for the one I pictured I cut the thin strips out. but If I was to use different shape card slots and leave the thin strips in the design then looks like mine could be from the same template as the other one pictured. it does make for one of the thinnest wallets I have ever carried. -
Looking for a vertical wallet pattern
Brianm77 replied to PalmieriLeather's topic in Patterns and Templates
I don't have a pattern but I bought a template from makes leather supply. I modified it slightly to get this. maybe that will help, brian P.S. there is a good chance the one in your picture was made from that template. they have different pocket designs aswell. -
I was going to point this one out. he cuts sholders and neck off first. he cuts off the butt making sure to leave the center (back towards belly) about 60" anything longer than that he has a hide put up that he takes the long belts out of. I think this is mostly right, probably better to go watch the video

I know this thread is old, but I was looking through some old stuff and thought I could add to it. I know others out there are looking. I have 3 sizes of the Ron's I bought from Makers leather supply. I really like them. they came very sharp. I believe if you ever need them done, you can send them back and Ron will resharpen them. and if you are passing anywhere close to MLS you can try them out there. I believe he will let you send them back if you are absolutely unhappy with them, but they wont disappoint. I have 6 or 7 various others and do not like any of them. most I believe are Tandy, and like someone said earlier, it is really easy to go way to deep with the edger. I even have a Kyoshelin from Japan that I spent over $30 on. I don't like that one either, it seems like the two points on the side that guide you through the leather want to dig into the leather. P.S. I know it is misspelled I am at work and don't have it near me.

Rocky that is a pretty good idea!! I like it

I think these are awful dainty to be part of some horse tack. The overall size of these is very small and he metal is rather thin. They strick me as something for some kind of purse hardware or something

I recently bought a lot of hardware from a closed down saddle shop. I have sorted through most of it. Thrown away the trash, sorted out the buckles and such. There were a lot of buckles, rings, clasps, a few corner pieces for say a briefcase. There were a lot of these little guys and for some reason it intrigues me. I would like to see if someone can tell me what these are and what they are for

I know this is an old thread but I was doing some research and thought it could use some updating. As for the layout, Makers Leather Supply has a centering ruler that also has parallel layout lines on one side. They come in 6", 12", and 18" lengths. you can layout 2 parallel lines in 1/8" increments from 1/8" to 2". it worked very well. I was trying this on a piece of 4oz. initially I was not happy with the "depth" I also was having a problem with the small piece I was working on sliding around. I got a larger piece of 2-3oz leather rough side up and put it between the work piece and the granite. it worked like a champ. the sliding was less of an issue and the depth improved. hope that helps. Brian
