  1. Here is one of the projects that kinda got me into leatherwork. The name and number are done with letters from a printing press in an arbor press.
  2. Me too, but for now will have to live with just selling me the serabraid....
  3. Hey man, I just placed and order. I have a couple questions. Do you do custom stamps? How many impressions do you normally get out of them?
  4. So 3:1 would be a little over 1100 and 4:1 would be about 855. I think it is more like 3420 on the motor rpm or 3450. But I did the math on 3420
  5. Yeah they have a spring in them. It springs open or closed.
  6. If your motor is 1750rpm. And you have a 2:1 pulley ratio then your down around 875 rpm. And a 3:1 would put you around 583 rpm should be a tag on your motor to tell you how fast it turns. Unless it has rubbed off.
  7. I didn't realize this thread was a year old and the OP has not been on since January... oh well, maybe help someone else
  8. Here is the one I have been making. The picture is of the one I carry so it is a little dingy. New (depending on the thickness used and type of leather) it is good for about 15 bills. And that is a pretty stout hold. After a little use the leather will soften up and you can put a few more. If you are interested I can take pics of my templates.
  9. Pillow block bearings $10 or so, shaft couple bucks, pulleys couple bucks at tractor supply, belt $10 at Orielys, piece of scrap plywood. You already got the motor...
  10. lol. I am ok by hand for now, but I will probably do something similar. Or I have a drill press that needs a little work and a little love to get back working again. Been more than a few years since I have used it, probably get it back going and use a burnisher in it.
  11. I have been using weldwood. I know some of the seasoned guys on here don't like it. But I have to say, I had to take a piece apart the other day and I almost could not salvage the half I wanted to keep. I have had pretty good luck. Maybe someone can say why you shouldn't use it. But it is readily available from the hardware store and has worked well for me. By the way get some stainless spatulas or I have seen guys use a piece of a credit card to spread with. It is easily cleaned up with a little mineral spirits and a paper towel.
  12. Mainly wallets, maybe a money clip or two, small little what not project. May have to give it a try. This is still a hobby and I would like to slow down on buying tools for now. Maybe tinker with an iron later. Does the Tokolone use the same process as well?
  13. Using pretty much the same process? Or only that stuff you said? How long did it last, any idea?
  14. So I am still pretty new and learning. With that said I have a question. During all the research, reading, watching videos, and looking here I have done, there seems to be two types of edge treatments. You have burnishing on veg tanned and you have edge coat or something on chrome tanned or anything that is not veg tanned. My problem is I don't like the look of the edge coat stuff. It looks like plastic on top of the leather to me. And I have seen a ton of stuff over the years we're the edges are cracked and pieces of the edge coat stuff falling off. My question is this. Is there not something I can try that is not just sitting on top? Maybe something that is a little more flexible. I would even be ok if it did not look quite as smooth or as refined, I think I might like it more than painting plastic on top of the leather. What y'all got?
  15. My daughter plays softball. We have out initial on our practice balls. And as the father of a pitcher I have to redo the initial or replace the ball often. On the set I have now, the initial was originally done with a sharpie. This time when I went to tough up, I tried dyeing with fiebings low voc black. I gave it a couple days to dry, then tried rubbing pretty hard with my thumb on a sharpie ball and a ball with the dye. The ball with the dye seemed to rub off a little more than the sharpie. Next time I have to buy new, if I remember, I will try the dye on a fresh ball and see what happens. Now I realize this is kinda apples and oranges. But it is an instance with both products on the same item. And they see a crap ton of abuse. I will say that when the sharpie rubs off in a spot, it does not appear to have soaked in very much into the leather. Do wat you like with that. Just figured I would throw it out there. Brian.
  16. Yes the big boys use magnets in wallets, I however will not. I do know that magnets are capable of wiping cards. I do not want to be put in the position were my product does harm to a customers bank cards, they won't be a customer much longer. Besides, the magnets I use for my money clips are much stronger than what you mostly see. I just don't want the liability. And that is just my $.02
  17. You can get something similar but not just like that using block dyeing have a look at this video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=pmby8aSVan0
  18. Well I got post a cerrection. The thread I thought was coming from Germany was actually coming from a wharehouse in the states. I called to order some today and the wharehouse did not have it in stock so that size and color would have to come from Germany.
  19. There was some talk in this thread of the serabraid. It is real close to tiger. I posed more extensively in another thread about it. I have been buying from southwest sewing machines out of Houston. They have a few colors instock. What they have not had instock they have gotten from Germany and only took about a week or maybe a little more. And two several hundred meter rolls was about $50 shipped. In that thread there was another member (solar leather machines I believe) that said he sold it also. I really like it. If you would like to see some, I could pull 10 or 15 feet off and send you some.
