  1. Funny how they have used Horses for centuries out in all weather, fittings made with simple tools and some no doubt looked after poorly. Maybe not waterproof but wear well when often soaked with water every day
  2. It would assist if you mentioned what country you are in as the site is international
  3. I thought Etsy took the payment for the individual just like the others therefore a marketplace, but that's just my reading of how hmrc would apply it
  4. Often the darker the thread the less flexible it is, you really notice in in embroidery machines where you change thread colours very often(funny customers never have their designs in basic colours always some obscure colour and you have to buy 12 or more cones on the larger machines and never use them again)
  5. Have you asked Ron if there is anyway you can have a test on one, I assume it would not be to hard to open a factory to show a local person
  6. The part i read was about OMP's which they refered to as "Online market places" so does this mean items brought through companies like Amazon , Alibaba, Etsy and so on, who can all register easily and charge the vat and not necessarily the small retailer who sells direct to the customer
  7. yup but it also pays for the Royal Mail. which works unlike some postal services
  8. Sorry to be a pain but is 550 watts good enough for a singer 111g155 max expected 5-6mm veg tan
  9. With leather work there is normally a 1001 different answers to any question, just ask the right question, What sewing machine do i need, or How do i Finnish my edges
  10. Use 138 thread on the bobbin, what size needle are you using
  11. I have no experience but know you can buy zipper feet. one for each side of the zip having seen them on youtube in action Also Rockyaussie had some 3D printed guides for installing zips that may be of use
  12. Hi Have you run the 750 watt jk563a at the quoted 200 rpm and does it have power at that speed to sew 4 mm leather Have just measured the hand wheel at 80 mm diameter and the intended drive pulley at 45 mm
  13. College-sewing.co.uk may have some parts if you need them.
  14. with old machines you also have to consider spares availability, something sometimes overlooked when you see a bargain
  15. I dont think the photo's do your goods any credit, you need more images of each item and watch straps need to show how they look on a person, Sorry but generally nice but nothing special
  16. Thanks wiz Have looked at a lot of commercial made leather goods and they seem to use far more than 8spi which made me wonder. I will be using LR type needles
  17. as a newby to machine stitching leather, I wonder what sort of stitch length would be good for small leather items like wallets and so on. normally hand stitching i would use 0.6 tiger at 3,38 mm, now looking at possibly #92 bonded nylon or even #69 welcome suggestions. using 111G155
  18. Not sure what it does but looks like a unusual boat anchor that might interest some collectors https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/Union-Special-Sewing-Machine-Been-in-the-corner-of-the-warehouse/124436694771?hash=item1cf90146f3:g:eUIAAOSwsW1frT4H
  19. But most likely a large problem to overcome fitting it to your machine. the pictures show it fitted to modern machines designed for it Plenty of uk based sellers selling servo's at far lower prices which are far easier to fit under the table and out of the way
  20. As a ex businessman, are you sure you can make enough profit on $200, there are lots of extra costs on selling things For example you can make a speed reducer from standard parts for about $50 but making it , selling costs and time costs in making, talking to customers, packaging, going to post office etc all add up considerably
  21. As it says, without going daft and wasting money , what would be a good basic set of feet for a compound feed machine
  22. you will probably need to rough up the surface for the glue to stick anyway, maybe with a scouring pad from the kitchen
  23. I think you may well have had a instructor on your course, who could point out what you needed and the failing of some makes, a great advantage many newby's do not have
  24. Dont forget that the stamps quoted are just examples, your free to be as artistic as you like, dont be tied by what others have used, experiment
  25. To me if you buy a £30 ($40) you get all the basic tools to find out if leather work is for you, you have some sewing tools, maybe some pricking irons, probably some stamps and mallet and so on , enough to try most things when you have no skills You could buy a £30 mallet or a £38 set of abbey pricking irons and so on, which for most starters would be a waste of money If you don't know what you need its easy to waste far more money than £30 on trying a new skill and leaving them all in the box after a month It take learned skill to know what tools are a improvement on what you have, for a mechanic starting. how does he know Snap-On are better than something half the price, you learn by experience in my point of view
