LOL they should come with a diploma, signed by Rube Goldberg. Using chisels to pre-punch so you don't have to use a hand awl to do the work while hand sewing wouldn't be any different would it? The way i understand the definition of machines or tools is that they need to do the job faster and easier than without the tool while still giving equal or even better results. In this case , my parameters, faster and easier than hand sewing with equal results of any other machine doing the same chore.

that is a good idea indeed, there are always work arounds to problems and this is one of them.

lol mine they call them bunsen burners over here, had denatured alcohol, dropped it on my bedroom rug, you cant see alcohol flames just a brown burn spot on the rug getting bigger and bigger. Got my butt tanned real good for that one.

i have to laugh when i remember those chemistry sets that were sold back in the day for kids Christmas. They had all the goodies plus a Bunsen burner. Todays parents would literally freak out, all my dad told me was don't eat anything and don't burn the house down.

He plays different video games and does a running commentary on them his name on you tube is Dr.Z Z is for zombie. thank you it took some time. lol first i did a paper Mache mask of his whole head for the pattern then a plaster of Paris mold of his face then the cast of his face so i could form it to his facial features, it fits him like a glove lol.

i doubt highly that your nail files will punch through leather as easily as the plastic they came with at least the ones over here wouldn't they have a very blunt point unlike a knife.

use a welt in it. sew in a small thickness of leather into the bottom about 3/8ths" wide so the tips will hit that instead of the bottom of the roll.

Dang I haven't tried them yet that will be todays tinker lol.

what i did was use your pattern in conjunction with the gi pattern which i did trace from a flat photo on my monitor (yup) to get my pieces . I do know the original was for a scope and the history of it but i built this for iron sights and it is much different in how it fits. My pattern has the cheek piece higher on the stock , like yours, and is also thinner then the original. I also used your idea of formed leather inside. I used the gi shape but it isn't the same at all it is just looks similar and seems a good idea so the pads can be adjusted for thickness. i also lengthened it so it could use the sling loop to hold the rest in place, the originals were screwed to the butt. In essence it only resembles the GI model. But tracing an outline from a monitor only gives you a picture , no actual dimensions so that was the hard part actually getting the thing the right size and in the right place.

Well here is my sons first dip into the leather pool with my help, its a work in progress and a first for me lol. Its a bugger teaching someone something you have no idea how to do. There will be modifications!!!

Thank you right now i have some 3/8th closed cell foam in them i have a set of pads made out of leather that Dwight showed me how to make but i'm not finished forming them. whats nice is i can change them out. The GI type used felt pads in thiers.

i was going that route but i also have in mind making a better foot with shallower teeth. The biggest problem i see with them is they are so rough they tear the top layer of leather all i have done so far is finish them better so they arent rough and sharp. the tension is at the very minimum
