  1. did you search the site? it is probably still here.
  2. Tim you are really good that is some exquisite tooling. How many years have you been working leather? i will never live long enough to get that good.
  3. So i go to a leather shop and instead of picking up the leather and actually looking at it, feeling it, smelling it, i use an app? damn what if you forget to take it along? What is a defect exactly in your mind? i agree you need first hand info. start at at a tannery, take photos as they show you what your looking at, become educated yourself.
  4. I'm gonna put another, earn your own masters, do the work your self so you actually know what your talking about when your done.
  5. Merry Christmas to all. Its a balmy -21*f here today. with a high of -12 predicted lol.
  6. That is great, now enjoy the holiday friend Merry Christmas. It will be -20 * f with a wind chill of -40 or so here for the next couple days i will be in the house doing the same lol.
  7. a guy could always put their logo on a little piece of scrap and attach it as a removable tag, or even attach it with a split key ring so folks could use it as a key ring. I would add a, made by ,if i were to use just my name.
  8. nope never tried it. my experience with oils is on canvas. i think if you apply gesso first like you do on canvas you would have a cracking problem sooner or later if the whatever is flexed, if it stays flat like a canvas then it would probably work ok as the leather is just a base for oil on gesso. without gesso your oil is going to soak into the leather and i have no idea how the remaining pigments will react on the leather or the leather to the pigments. great question and easy to find the answer just try a piece of scrap. That being said you got to realize someone in the long history of leather and oil painting has probably tried this and if it would have worked with any success it would be a common thing now.
  9. beautiful team effort!! you guys made one really nice bag, i especially like the pockets and liner as well.

  11. and you don't need it for the out side either just cut rectangles form a piece of strap, punch and cut your tang holes then glue, press and shape with a sander.
  12. you dont need a big punch if if your tang is rectangle punch two holes, one at each end the same width as your tang then cut them out creating a slot the correct size. if you watched forged in fire then forget everything you saw. don't use epoxy to glue them together use contact cement to do the laminations. you can use epoxy in the slot when you glue it up but not for each piece of leather. after your contact cement dries then wet your leather and compress it and let it dry. i used my vice and did mine in sections. make your slot as close as possible to the correct size or you will run the risk of cutting or sanding through. last of all be sure to post a picture of your awesome knife.
  13. lol ! Great looking holster my friend.
  14. lol i will tell you why we still use Fahrenheit instead of Celsius. 12 above zero sounds al lot better than 11 below zero. bbq sounds awesome !! We are having breakfast for supper tonight, Steaks, eggs and hash brown potatoes.

  18. Mother nature is not so nice here lol we are on our third day of winter storm with two more days to go, the roads were closed yesterday and when the wind comes up probably again today. 14*f for the high today with six inches of snow so far lol. Folks get plumb crazy on Christmas gifts they don't realize custom hand made stuff isn't setting in a bin somewhere waiting for them to figure out what day it is lol. But it makes for a nice income for a guy if he has the time. Hope you and your folks are doing well too my friend and good luck on your market!!
