  1. Very nice leather work and great photography. Wonderful way to display your work. Thanks for sharing.
  2. Most Impressive. You really nailed it and whomever gets it is going to cherish it for the rest of their life and pass it on. You created a masterpiece that the entire family will be able to enjoy.
  3. I was in Tandy today and they had some Ostridge for sale. I wanted to work with something difference and want to get going on making some wallets and card holders for friends and family. I bought templates from Tandy and from Maker's Leather, so I'm on my way. First attempt was a tri-fold wallet made with Python and lined with Pig. I like the way it came out but I still need practice. I tried my first Ostridge today and had it almost completed until I punched out the area between the credit card holders that I attached to the front instead of the inside of the wallet. About 2 hours work destroyed. I have to admit my stitching was very good but I'll never get to show it. Second attempt, ( I was smart enough to get two hides ) is working out pretty well. I'm using a tan hide and light brown pig interior. The Ostridge is lined with RFI paper from Tandy and then black pig skin. Inside is tan and the credit card holders are black. I'll post pictures later. I'm too tired and need to STEP AWAY for a while. Just to be different I'm using blue thread. Just a rant of how my day is going. I love doing this leatherwork but the temperature in the garage is over 110 degrees, no AC, lots of water but I'm going to go out at 3 a.m. to try to finish it. Pic is the Python and pig interior before I assembled it, and then the finished wallet.
  4. Yes, I meant lacing. After 60 years I still have fat fingers. I also need to edit before hitting send. Very impressive work.
  5. Most excellent!! Love the stitching and the lasing. Wish I could learn to lase. I think I'll watch a few videos on it.
  6. I checked out your page. Incredible work and when I make one I will post it. Thanks so much.
  7. Wonderful design. I like the color and the art work a lot. Now I see how to get more cards in the holder. I've been looking for designs and if you don't mind I'd like to copy yours.
  8. Wonderful shop and great way to advance your grandchildren into a fantastic hobby and good business venture. Nice wallets. What weight leather was used? Thanks Oxbo

  10. I have 2 Ernie Hill leather belts that are lined with metal. They just don't wear out. I ordered a new one a few months ago and it fit perfectly for about a month. I am loosing weight and now the 50 inch belt is way too big. I'm down to 44 inches. At $100 a pop I'm holding off for another 50 pounds before I buy another belt. I use them for dress and for when I carry. The gun stays put and the belt does not shift. I don't know what he uses for metal lining but I'll have to ask him one of these days.
  11. I tried some thicker leather this time, using 10 ounce for the body and 7 ounce for the liner. Biggest problem was punching the stitch holes but I found a #2 punch that was large enough to go through both weights. I normally use 5 stitch to an inch chisel but it just didn't go through all the way. I had dyed it tan and then stitched with almond color thread instead of white. The hardest part was doing the bottom of the holster after all the other stitching was finished. The gun fit perfect but when adding the compensator it sticks out about 1/2 inch. Next one I'll make a little larger. I soaked it in hot soapy water and then formed it to the gun. It's nice and secure. I screwed up with the location of a tension screw so I'm going to glue a concho there to cover up my mistake. I don't need a tension screw so this will help. As always any criticism is welcome.
  12. Great work for your first piece and a good use of some discarded leather.
  13. Now that's a holster! Wonderful work on holster and grips. Someone is going to be very happy.
  14. Thanks Dwight. I copied an old friend and holster maker, Ernie Hill for the design. I too use a Red Dot sight on it occasionally which is another reason for it to be cut down so much.
  15. I'm guessing, but it feels a lot like my .5 mm pig skin. The pig skin is very stiff but makes a good wallet, I've tried it. I don't like the looks of the color I have so I want to cover it up if I were to use it on the outside. There is enough skin on the Python that the top and bottom scales are not going to be used. The rest seems pretty solid.
  16. I've made a few wallets and now want to make one out of Python. I was able to find a meter that looks pretty good. My question is: do I glue the skin to a thin piece of leather or other skin or do I just make the top piece with the Python?
  17. It's difficult to find a decent holster for my Volquartsen Black Mamba. The biggest problem is that I have a Striplin Thumb Rest on the left side that sticks out about an inch so any holster found needs to be modified. I decided to build this one myself. Nice and stiff so the gun can not fall out but easy to draw. It's 10 ounce leather with a 5 ounce liner dyed Tan. The gun is at about a 10 degree rack which I find perfect for my carry guns.
  18. Very nice job. I can't wait to see what your holsters will look like after a few more practice pieces.
  19. Awesome work. Belt and holster are a perfect match.
  20. When I do it with that thick of a holster I lay out my pattern and mark where I start and stop with my stitching. I then transfer that to the holster and use my chisel to go through the first layer. I then take the pattern and do the same for the welt and then the other side of the holster. Your holes will line up nicely. On a number of my competition holsters I use 7-8 ounce leather with a lining of the same stuff. They are thick and my technique has worked for me for many years. I think if you give it a try you will like the outcome.
