  1. Good work.
  2. Very nice thought and excellent card wallets. I'm sure they will be happy.
  3. WOW. Now that's a gorgeoous bad.
  4. Klara: Thanks for that advice. I had to order one of the previous books and I'm hoping it will be here next week. Following his lessons will help. I did manage to make a small 2 X 2 box today for practice. Still have a long way to go but now I understand it a bit more. At least I didn't have any trouble with my English Edger. Got the angle right. I figure a few more practice boxes before I make one for my briefcase project.
  5. Thanks I'll try that. FredK Good information. I've printed out your instructions and will give it a try.
  6. Thanks JCUK. That's what I was looking for.
  7. Yes, you have the right name of the book. I was going by memory and didn't get it right. I guess I need to make it on a block of wood. I've just glued it together and trying to stitch it. I watched a video last night of someone doing a binocular case and they didn't need a wood block, they just pushed the needle through the leather. I may not be strong enough to push through the leather. I'm only 70 but not as strong as I use to be. I'm not pre punching. That's probably what I need to do before I gouge the leather. I tried after gouging but the chisel just slips. Thanks for the ideas. That really give me an idea of what to do next.
  8. I'm working on a box from The Art Of Leatherwork Volume II and there is a box that needs to be gouged to a 45 degree angle and the stitched together. I've destroyed two awls so far tying to go through 9 ounce leather. I can make the angle using veg tan leather but couldn't do it to the main job on the corners of the bag since it's real soft Buffalo skin Can anyone give me a hint on how to sew a mitered box? Appreciate it.
  9. I have a cheapie round knife from Tandy Leather that as been woriking real well for me. I've found that stropping it often helps. I also use a diamond fine stone when I think it's dull. The sequence is to run the knife down stone 100 tunes on one edge, do the other side and then 99 times,98 ect. When you get down to zero you should have a pretty sharp knife. The strop and you are good to go. Before I starterd this system I could never sharpen a knife.
  10. I decided to take a few days off after slicing my thumb today with a new box cutter. I'm making a bag that I'm hoping will be my shooting bag. I've got to modify it from the description in "Leather Cases, Volume II". I couldn't gouge the leather to produce a mitered edge so I'm going to have to change the dimensions a bit. Next project is the Gadget bag at the end of the book. Just trying to learn so I'm trying different projects.
  11. You did an excellent job on those. Good luck with future orders I hope you get a lot of them.
  12. You should sell the remainder of your hide. I'm sure if you posted pictures of it someone would show interest. Plaining it is going to be a bear. I recently bought some Buffaloe hide to make a shooting bag. Turned out to be 10 ounce which is o.k. but I cannot gouge the edges because the inside is so soft. I won't be able to do a mitered fit like the instructions call for. The good thing is that the bag is for me so I can live with it. It will become a display model and I'll see if anyone wants me to build them one. I normally make holsters. This hide is too soft for that.
  13. Thanks. I'm 70 and I'm going to call the VA to see if I can get in to see my doctor.
  14. Thanks for the report. Yes, I really like what you did by lowering the leather around the cylinder. Gives it a really nice and different look.
  15. I'm not sure what's causing it but wow am I having a bad time with the dropsies. First I nocked over my can of cement and poured about 1/2 on my cutting board. I couldn't just turn it over because it would then stick to my bench. It was 24 X 36 and I really liked it. I changed it out for an older board I have, 18 X 24. It's just large enough to fit over my granite slab, so now I have that in the middle of my desk as well. Today I dropped my cup of hot coco. I dropped a jar of cheery juice, dropped my knife, hammer and thred a few times. I finally decided it's time for a break before I break something important.
  16. Awesome. Please tell the details of the holster. How is it lined, what pattern did you use? etc.
  17. Awesome. Makes me want to take up cigar smoking again. Top notch work.
  18. Very nice looking holsters. I just got a pattern for a Rodesein I like the design. You nailed it.
  19. Very well done. Looks like the gun will be secure. Nice work.
  20. I bought a pack of the rubber spatulas from Tandy and they have worked real well. They aren't that wide so a larger one my work out better for you. I really like the looks of the Putty Knife from Home Depot and will be getting one to try.
  21. Very nice, clean looking rig. Color is nice and light. What dye did you use? I'm finding that I like the Avenger style more than pancake and have gotten a few orders for holsters since showing off the Avenger I made.
  22. I use Tandy's white glue and have been surprisingly happy with it. It bonds real well and there is no smell. I'm restricted to the garage to do my work because my girlfriend, it's her house, doesn't like the smells from my liquids but she hasn't said anything about this glue. Barge is definitely pungent.
  23. Really nice I like your design very much. Color looks fantastic. You should get lots of orders from The Wild Bunch after they see that one.
