  1. Hi Doc! Thanks for the great info. Yes, agree on all points.... But, I'm in an apartment (small, too) -- no grinder, no sander, no power tools a knock off dremel is best I can do. But will keep your advice in mind for whenever the dream of more space happens... sigh Thanks again!!
  2. What kind of balm ? Any info?
  3. Thanks all! I get it, useful, decorative -- depends
  4. Double the warmth. Nice lacing.
  5. Nice! Ah, but what is considered ridiculous ? I never use a bottle opener, I use my teeth -- so not gona wrap those. My stuff is pretty common - but the urge to wrap all kinds of things is real. I've done personal bike handle wraps - no photo - but they were good and fun and perfect. Walking stick wrap. No photos. I guess those were necessary at least for me. Glass pickle jars (for drinking) - this one - been on this glass for 2 years, never comes off, wash it every day in hot water. Lived some life - not sure if it qualifies as leather still.
  6. Good luck. Stay at it. Important note though - your domain is a thinkific site - brief look, they do online courses of all types - Do they let you set up your own domain ? Maybe pay them some sort of extra fee to own just what's called the "top level domain" (completeleathercraft)? Otherwise its quite the mouthful ! I would think they let you own both -- so you can take advantage of their own domain name recognition (thinkific). Final little bitty point - make sure they can add a "www" redirect -- right now if someone adds "www" it blackholes. Most people never do that these days and browsers usually force it -- but not always. Anyhow - keep going - your leather work is good, and your video production is professional and simple as well (what I saw at least).
  7. Nice. Ok - million dollar question -- never done piping, I like the look - but... why piping ? Does it help structure? Look good? Opinions and facts welcome
  8. Nice paper weight - what did you fill it with ?
  9. Let us know how it works, interested. Thanks.
  10. Thanks all. I ended up doing 400 ring snaps (fun!). Separately found that glove snaps work pretty good for thinner leather.
  11. ^ wasn't trying to offend anyone. Shed/room = someday I'll get there too.:)
  12. Welcome!!!!
  13. Oof! I wish I had the problems you all have with how to solve your shed space issue .... I'm on my kitchen table in me living room.
  14. simple! love it. I do onions, garlic lemon salt paper. done.
  15. Thanks for the replies. They are for cushioning a headset type item on the forehead. (That's why the soft lambskin.) Wrapping around then snapping together - with some foam glued inside for padding. The stretch is unavoidable me thinks as the ring snaps do a bit of reshaping when they go in. They are not prepunched - they have 5 pronged teeth that bite as they go in.
  16. Hi All, Doing a project for a customer - 25 of these - precision cuts 220mm long 98 high. Precise 78mm spacing on ring snaps. Free handing the cutting with steel ruler and rotary knife. Lambskin (soft, flexible, squishy). The cuts were perfect straight edges until ring snaps were put in -- they stretch the final edge. Question is: continue free handing or go in for die cutters? Spec is 2mm wiggle room/tolerances. Just looking for advice or answer to the question -- as poll : Continue free hand ? Yes / No Go with dies ? Yes / No
  17. I have one. Worth every penny. (And I'd never ever try to replicate it despite any skills I think I may have as a leather craftsman.)
  18. Awesome! And great to see you here on the forum (legendary tools, CS Osborne)
  19. So... I have to give the greatest shoutout to this forum and this thread and SUP and Nigel for a problem I have had for 10 years : nice diagonal stitches on round hole punched items. Basically -- I am left handed, and come in on initial cast from the left, and always have gone under. All stitching looked like the first few holes Nigel stitched. I decided there was no way to do diagonal stitches with round holes. I watched this video and I saw it COULD be done -- so assuming I was doing something wrong that I had been doing since the beginning, and knowing my left handedness might have something to do with it... I modified my cast to pass the first needle OVER the second needle, then back through for standard knot. Voila - perfect diagonal stitches with round hole punches. (Still need to dial in spacing and tension, but primary mechanics are in place!) Clouds parted, sun shining and a 10 year problem solved.
  20. Sorry to hear on your health. Not in need of sewing machine. What else will you be selling?
