  1. I have an order for a horizontal phone case. I have never made one and I have a couple of concerns.; hoping someone can help me. 1. On vertical cases, I use a simple spring belt clip, but the ones I have are too long for a horizontal case. I am concerned shorter clips might not be secure enough. I've been thinking of some type of decorative clips that can be exposed on each end, or belt loops (perhaps a single wide belt loop) if the customer agrees. 2. If the phone case is horizontal, especially with belt loops, wouldn't this put torque on the phone? Seems like each end of the phone will need to be away from the body. This would have the tendency to flop around and/or hang on things. (construction worker) 3. Seems like with a horizontal phone case the flap would be annoying, since it is so long. Or the flap could be molded and "hinged" to the case with a thin piece. --- or the phone could come out the front and not the top, which seems to me would make a more secure holster. Perhaps I am overthinking this - I hope so. I've scouted around for examples but not seen anything other than the factory made
  2. I finally got around to making myself a belt. I think belts are about my favorite thing to make. This is the 4th belt I've made. It makes me happy to wear it because i know I made it myself.
  3. Hi I want to order men's belt buckles but the minimum qty is large. I'd like to go 50/50 on an order of 600 men's buckles. ANTIQUE NICKEL. Note, the photos are the brass color. They are $.85 each not inc. shipping from China (I'm guessing no more than $150 for the full order). They fit a 1.5" belt.

  7. Wow I found an add on craigslist for a campbell harness stitcher. The add had been running for 6 months and started at 4000, 3000, 2000, best offer. I called and scheduled a visit. The stitcher has been sitting for around 20 years. Was purchased for a business that never got off the ground so machine was put in storage. When i saw this stitcher it looked a little rough. I offered 1200 and to my surprise he quickly said yes. I got the Campbell home and called Campbell Randall and discovered it was a Randall. I oiled it, cleaned all the dust off (lots of dust over 20 years) oiled, cleaned, ordered parts, timed, adjusted and turned her over. She was stiff so I oiled her again and again untill she was smooth. I got some thread and threaded her up, wound a bobbin and put in a double piece of 15 oz and sewed it by hand (she did not come with a table) but she stitches like a dream. Nice tight stitches through 1/2 inch of leather, 1/4 in leather. Got to get a table, motor and speed reducer to try her out for good. 20 years of sitting now she's mine.
  8. Here's a belt I just finished for my uncle. Nothin' fancy. The leather is 9oz and it is not lined so the stitching is decorative (yes, it's machine stitched). I thought the oval holes were a bit too big and setting the rivets left a few marks but other than that I think it's ok. He pretty much wanted a heavy duty strap of leather to hold his pants up so hopefully it will meet his expectations. Comments/critique are always welcome. Thanks for looking! -Ryan
  9. I've decided to make a vegtan belt using some old Eco-Flo products for dyeing and finishing. It is machine stitched, using metric 20 polyester thread; lined with pigskin; stainless steel buckle; briar brown gel antique color; lightly oiled with neatsfoot oil; Giardini edge-paint.
  10. Here's a couple of pics of recent projects. Enjoy and as always, comments are welcome. The wallet is what led me into making the skiving knife that I recently posted. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures of the wallet interior and rolled edges. all of the carving for the set was done with this . I'm sure some of you will recall it is one of my homemade swivel knives which has become my recent favorite .
  11. A friend and fellow toddler parent was complaining that her daughter is so tiny that her pants keep falling down, and I suggested that I could make her a little pair of suspenders. She wasn't too keen on that idea, but maybe a belt? she asked. But something that would be simple for her daughter to undo when they start potty training. The idea that we came up with (or agreed to look into further) was Velcro. So I'm picturing a 1/2" or 3/4" strip of leather with a little dot of hooks on one side and a strip of loops on the other. So, I've got the belt leather, and Velcro tape isn't that expensive. But I've never sewn Velcro onto anything. (And I want to sew it on, so that it's nice and secure.) Anything in particular I need to know?
  12. Got tired of belt holes not being in a straight line.
  13. So I ordered some 9/10 oz European bridle in Havana brown from rjf leather recently for another project. But lo' and behold my dad asked for a belt on his Christmas list. He wanted a 1" belt for work (superintendent for construction and doesn't want it to dig in) So I thought this would be a perfect situation to showcase the beauty in this leather. The buckle is a 1" nickel brass heelvar buckle from buckle guy. I took the pics in my makeshift lightbox so if they look funny that's probably why. Critiques are welcome. I'm waiting on wax to finish the edges a bit more.
  14. Hello! I want to add lines to a belt that look exactly like in this picture. Does anyone know how this is done? If maybe there is a tool for it? Thank you
  15. Hi all - I added custom heavy duty work belts to my product list a year ago. So far I have been cutting my own blanks using 12-15oz Wickett & Craig Harness sides, cut lengthwise obviously. This heavy harness leather has worked out very well for thick sturdy work belts. Recently though, I thought I'd try out Wicket't's 10-12oz English bridal double bend for casual belts. This cut is marketed toward belt makers as increasing yield and eliminating un-usable square footage. Ok, my question for all the wise leather guru's out there is: In your experience, when using double bends, does it matter whether the straps are cut across the width of the hide, ie: perpendicular across the "backbone" ? Or lengthwise parallel to the backbone? At first I figured that straps cut across the width would capitalize on the natural curve of the hide as it grows on the steer. But it seems like I might get a better yield if I cut lengthwise. I hope this question makes sense. Thanks!
  16. Howdy! A friend of mine asked me to make a hair-on belt for her in exchange for a hair-on cowhide. This was a pretty good deal for both of us since the hide wasn't getting used in any way except for collecting dust in the shed. This is my first time doing anything with hair-on hide. Let me know what you think and critique is always welcome!
  17. A while ago I was given some thick crocodile printed veg... and didn’t know what to use it for because it’s not the kind of thing I normally work with... so finally I decided to go for belts... think it worked out alright ...
  18. Hey guys, am new to the site. I ran into a little bit of a snag which is what brought me here. I have a particular belt buckle(1.5") I am trying to fit onto a belt that has a width of 2"(9oz). I was wondering if anyone knew how to make this work?

  20. So my wife had her birthday today and I made to items for her. For the last year she complained about the fact, that she didn't get a bag from me and why I was doing them for everyone else. I tried to argue that the other people paid for the bags, but she just dismissed that argument so today she finally got the bag and was thrilled... and I also did a belt she really liked. Both items is made of black veg tan leather, hand stitch and the bag got brown goat lining. I would love your opinion on the items, good day to you all.
