  1. Hello everyone, I found this forum a while ago but this will be my first post. I only had my Cobra class 26 for about 2 weeks but I love how this machine functions, I'm learning every day more things about it. My problem (well other then learning how to stitch better with it) is that the presser foot marks the material, on chrome tan is not that noticeable but on some of the vegetable tan sometimes it marks it pretty bad, is there something I can do to not marker it that bad, or maybe a new foot I can buy for this purpose? Thanks everyone. P.S. I tried to search for this on the forum but I couldn't really find anything.
  2. Hello! I desperately need a leather sewing machine and I've done a lot of research and simply cannot decide what's best. I mostly make handbags with leather and heavy canvas, and I've been doing a combination of sewing what I can on my Janome HD 3000 (great for apparel sewing but can only handle about 1/4" of leather at most) and then hand sewing like crazy. I'm fairly convinced that a cylinder bed would be best for my needs. I've read great things about the Cobra Class 4 and the Cowboy 4500, but I worry that they won't sew well with lighter weight applications. For instance, I read that the Cobra Class 4 uses thread sizes #138 - #415, but I often need to sew with thread as small as #69 with a 18/110 needle. So then I looked at the Cowboy 3200 and the Cobra Class 3 and Class 26. They seem more reasonable in terms of sewing lighter weight leathers but the fact that they all have only about a 10" arm seems like a ridiculously small amount of clearance. I was tempted to buy a Singer Cobbler Patcher 29 found near me on craigslist, but I do occasionally need to sew through 3/8" or even 1/2" and it apparently can't handle that on a regular basis. I'm also having trouble finding dealers on the east coast. I live in Maine, so if someone could direct me toward a good dealer in the Northeast, I would really appreciate it. Thanks so much! Michaela
  3. Due to my health, I am giving up the trade. Selling my nearly new Cobra Class 4 standard package. It has 12 hours of use on it. I was just starting to learn the machine. Didn't even use up the spool of thread it came with. Still has 7 of the 10 needles and everything else is totally new and unused. This is an awesome machine that can handle up to 1 3/4" thickness in leather as well as sew canvas, biothane etc. Everything is perfect on it except one tiny nick on the feed dog where I broke a needle when tension was too tight. It does not affect sewing at all, didn't even buff it out. If you are looking for a heavy duty workhorse, that will make you money back in production, this is it! Asking $2000 flat for pickup in the Ohio area. Willing to drive a ways to meet. Shipping is possible but you arrange it and pay and I will take it to the shippers. It will need to be crated and sent freight through one of the freight shippers. It is heavy! I cannot send it in a cardboard box. I accept paypal or cashiers check. Near new condition $2000 Shipping NOT included. Minimal transport included upon agreement. Standard Package-https://www.leathermachineco.com/product/cobra-class-4-s-standard-package/
  4. Hi All, I'm wanting to purchase either a hand crank or electric leather splitter - used. I'm located in Australia so am looking for someone willing to post to Australia or located in Australia. Thanks Tom
  5. I have a bit of a dilemma. I am fairly new to leatherwork. I am in my 60s and still work part-time as a government contractor. At this point, I am just a hobbyist but may want to try to sell some goods in the future. I am most interested in making knife sheets and holsters and some motorcycle accessories. I jump into everything with both feet. I've already spent several thousand dollars on a variety of tools and other necessities. I am from a law enforcement background so I have a lot of connections in that field and in the motorcycle field, so that is where my customer base would be. I have been hand stitching up to this point and I have to say the results are actually pretty good. I would like to speed things up a bit with the sewing machine. I have been longing for a Tipmann Boss. I have read every review that I can find but there doesn't seem to be a real consensus. I have also been looking at the Cowboy and Cobra electric machines. The Boss is expensive but affordable. The electric machines are crazy expensive for a hobbyist. The mistake I don't want to make is buying the Boss and being dissatisfied with it a year later and buying the electric machine. Has anyone used the Boss long-term? Have you wished that you had just taken a big bite out of the bullet and bought the electric machine?

  10. MY FIRST COBRA CREATION!!!! Completely sewn on my Cobra Class 18!!! This is me in the pics rockin something I made...feels good to say that (and that its a perfect fit)!!!.I DID IT!!!! This is such a proud moment for me.It feels good to accomplish a project when you find a new hobby! I have spent the last couple months turning two leather hides, deer skin lacing, sequins, and handmade turquoise satin piping into my own custom creation!!! This chrome finished peplum leather jacket has blood, sweat, and tears rolled into it and I couldnt be more proud to finally showcase something I made (the first thing Ive made) from scratch all by myself!
  11. Hay guys, Anyone have experience with the cobra class 4 sewing machine? I am having trouble keeping my stitching even top and bottom from the edge. (top perfect, bottom to close to the edge or comes out the side of the edge) I'm using a left presser foot and the regular plate with feed dog. My thread is 277 top and 207 bottom - bonded nylon. I'm going through 2 layers of 8oz. leather. my stitch line is 3/16" from the edge. I also use the platform that mounts to the table stand so I can have a flat surface for my work to rest so I don't have to juggle the work and guide:) I see people using their machines on youtube to make beautiful stitches, and i would love to know how to do it also. Any advice would help, not many vids out there that show different ways for setup. I love projects that have the stitch line closer to the edges, it makes the work cleaner looking. Thank you for your time

  13. So I am almost in the market for a good leather sewing machine. I have read hours of posts from all of you wonderful people! I may be more lost now than I was. Any help would be great help. Here is what I need to do and maybe someone could tell me what I need to look for in a machine. 1) Relatively easy to use 2) Sew about 1/2" - 3/4" of leather occasionally but mostly 1/4" 3) Table big enough to unroll chaps or leather vests while sewing 4) Walking foot that actually works like a walking foot. 5) $1500 - $1800 or less preferred budget OK That is it. Is there an option for me????? For now I am struggling with hand stitching EVERYTHING. A 20 minute holster takes 3 1/2 hours to stitch which makes it not cost effective to sell anything. I do it though because I love it. My Jenome costume machine sews through pig and the likes but that's about it. I have been looking really hard at the Cobra Class 17 and the Highlead GC20618. I also really like the Cobra Class 4, I think but it is a little above budget and may put me back a couple of months or more. What do y'all think? Am I on the right track? Thanks everyone in advance for any input you may have!

    Cobra 3

It looks like my shop is too small and my business has changed. Since I only have room for one sewing machine and I am making lighter weight items now days I am going to sell my nearly new Cobra 3. Bought it 2015 used only a few hours. I planned on making holsters and sheaths but my business is mostly belts, wallets and other small items. I will be looking for a something along the lines of a CB227, CB341 or equivalent. Pick up in Lake Lure, NC. Asheville area. $1900 or trade for a lighter weight machine. I will include a few spools of 277 thread, needles, feet and flatbed work platform. That is $400 off the price of a new machine with the work platform.
  22. Can anyone tell me which sewing machine the cobra class 4 is based on ? I think it's a discontinued Singer. Just not sure.
  23. Cobra class 4 premium leather sewing machine for sale. Comes with all the attachments, instructional video, owners manual and three spools of thread. Everything that originally came with the machine comes with it. The sewing machine itself has less than an hours time on it. It's basically brand new. I am selling it because I am moving and slowing down business for the moment. Asking $2400. Contact Colin via phone or text @ 406-249-7686 I am willing to ship. Sewing machine is located in northwest Montana Thanks!
  24. Hello, As I continue to set up and use my new Cobra 4 sewing machine I have been speaking with the Leather Machine Co. to figure out a strange issue. I thought I would also put it up on here in case others have had the same problem, or in case we find a good solution, in which case - we can all benefit! Upon installing either the stirrup plate or holster plate, it is apparent that the needle comes down very close to the right hand side of the slot. On the holster plate the needle pretty much touches the right side of the slot. This is with the plate installed as far to the right as possible. In the instructions it says to have the needle more to the left side of the slot when using any of the plates. Basically a business card thickness between the left side of the slot and needle is necessary. If it is in the center or to the right of center you risk skipped stitches or frayed thread. - So far they have sent me out a new needle clamp that screws up into the needle bar. The new clamp did not change the position of the needle at all. - I then made a suggestion that perhaps the stirrup plate and holster plate need to be ground down on the right side to allow more play when installing. My reasoning is because the needle seems like it comes down center or just off right of center of the feed dog (when installed), and that the top stitch plate seems to be installing just fine as per instructions. I only have issue with the holster or stirrup plates. I am still waiting to hear back about that suggestion for grinding the plates down, I certainly don't want to patch something when there is a better way to adjust/fix though. Anyone else had to grind the plates down to fix their placement on these Cobra 4 machines? I'll keep updating as I hear back.
  25. I am a new business, Hank & Henrietta that makes handbags. I am looking to add a quality leather sewing machine to help me grow my business. I have experience with a "regular" sewing machine, but have never used a leather or industrial machine. I saw a machine listed on craigslist as new/ unused, but I have never heard of the brand. It is a Zhejiang Sibyer Model SB-810. Here is the link: https://sfbay.craigslist.org/sby/bfs/6051990454.html I was wanting some advice as what is your opinion on this machine? I also would like recommendations on which machine to look for preferably under $2k. I have researched quite a bit and believe I am wanting a cylinder arm machine and have looked at the following, but am open to suggestions for others. - Tech Sew 2750 - Cowboy CB341 Juki 341 I currently sew hair on hide, cowhide and softer leathers, but would want to use the machine for 2 oz. to maybe 6 or 7 oz veg tan. I make handbags and looking to start making wallets and other accessories. When recommending a machine I am looking for one with a big learning curve that is some what easy to use. I truly appreciate your advice and help. Melissa
