I needed to set up a couple of snap presses for a job I am working on. I decided to use Dot Fasteners Durable Snaps for my snaps because they are mil-spec, berry amendment compliant and have a variety of post heights available to accommodate different thicknesses of material. I am installing the caps/sockets on straps that have a .040" plastic stiffener between two layers of .050" webbing. I looked at Stimpson, Osborne and a few other brands and did not see a variety of post lengths. New presses range from $200 for an Osborne to $300 for a Dot Fastener and $370 for a Master Tools Little Wonder. So I looked around and found an old Handy Junior button press on CraigsLi…

I have acquired two differenct model of ESTO leather and plastic trimmers. I haven't found any information on the web on ESTO products. Thje trimmers need new Cutter (top) blades., while the scorer (bottom) is OK. Having cleaned out many years of grime and dirt, one cuts 6mm heal material real well, the other is way to worn. Does anyone know any about ESTO gear and are spare parts available? I will up load some photos shortly.

So recently I bought several things from C.S. Osborne and decided to share my experience. I needed a leather splitter and even though there was little firsthand info on that particular one I decided to get it because of the good name they have and the few videos on youtube where it seems to work great. But the reality is that is a piece of garbage that is waaay overpriced. First of all there are a lot of wobble in the rotating axle. So if you pull the leather down (this way the rotation helps you and the pull is easier) the axle moves and you just can’t get even split, no matter what you try. So you should pull it towards yourself which is quite harder but not impos…

Picked up this little beast today and have a few questions for those of you that are familiar with them. First, when were these made? I've read that they made two versions this being the later one. Second, how do I sharpen the blade? It seems to work ok but I'm sure that it needs sharpening. I love old tools and am excited to start using it!

Hi all, sharing some pics for info of a vintage Kingsley hot foil machine I just bought through eBay. From the brief research I’ve done and the relatively high serial number, I believe it’s probably early to mid-1980s (time flies!). The model is LM 55 AF, and weighs about 20 lbs give or take. Welcome any feedback anyone has, especially with regards to oiling and care (even came with some of the original Kingsley oil). I have a number of attachments for the machine as well, including a Christmas card holder, napkin holder, and playing card monogramming attachment. I already set it up and tested using the original Kingsley foil that came with the machine - worked a treat. …

This is just a very handy tool I have come up with that I mostly use for quick removal of thickness when I do my Crocodile backstrap belts. I have found by putting in place a steady at the front it can be rotated back to act as a thicknesser. I have sandwiched a coarse sandpaper between the rotating guide/steady, and this works well to hold firmly in place wherever I set the steady to.The steady can rotate right out of the way to allow free hand sanding or right in to touching.See the pics. The newer model I am working on will have a foot pedal to allow it to be opened and come back to an adjustable stopper which will improve the input of materials.Although I have bandkni…

I am new to leather crafting and am looking to buy my first manual clicker press. Would love some guidance on the best ones and where to look. Also, if you have a clicker press rec, then do you know what the maximum cutting board size it comes in? Thanks for any help!

Hello all, Forgive me if this has been covered. I am sure it has been at some point. I am having some brass stamps made so I can do some hot stamping. I currently stamp my makers mark and some requested stamping patterns with a shop press. I am wanting to use an arbor press for accuracy in layout. I plan on buying something inexpensive and having a machine shop bore out the arbor for an insert. My question is does anyone known the thread size and pitch of the most commonly available dies for setting snaps/rivets etc. The insert I have made will be threaded as appropriate and I also want to advise my brass stamp maker on what size rod to make fit the brass sta…

Hello leathercrafters! I am considering investing in skiver from Global, with name "sk 111". It is almost impossible for me to find any detailed information or someones review. Based on this video and leaflet, do you think it is machine worth buying? It is cheap, something over 1000 Euros, but I can't afford to invest much, since I already bought sewing machine. I need to skive soft chrome tanned leathers for bags, 1-2mm thick. Thank you very much for any opinion. Leaflet from Global: http://www.globalsew.com/data/upload/files/sk100leaf.pdf Video of the machine:
