  1. Make something your friend wants for the drawing he does for you.
  2. It's hard to tell anything about it because all of the pictures are upside down.
  3. KND in watching your video i noticed you have the thread running twice through the guides on both of them. Not sure if that's your problem, but i thread my machine just like Bob does in this video at the bottom of the page going through the guides one time http://www.tolindsewmach.com/cb4500.html . On my machine i set the tension sewing through two pieces of chap leather and it's good for ever thing else and i sew 3/4 " thick quite a bit.
  4. I like your bags. The black one reminds me of a bird without a beak.
  5. If you tool them before you put them on how are you going to know where to tool? What i was saying is you need to find out where your tooling is going to be before you do it. If you put them on and find out where you need to tool then take them off flaten out the leather and do your design and put the caps back on. But you need to do how ever you think it will work
  6. If i was going to make the toe caps. I think i would use some 3/4 5/6 oz just wet enough that i could form it over the toe. Then take a pencil and mark where the back of the toe would be and around the sole. Take it off and trace your design, do the design and put it back on the boot to dry. After it dried cut on the line on top of the boot where it fits and glue.
  7. I've had a Ferdco Pro 2000 for close to 20 years in that time i had one tension spring break and the little rubber tire on the winder wore out. Sewed all types of things from cattle shades, tarps, trampoline covers, logging chaps, toe straps, big thick tie downs, nylon chokers for crains and leather. If where you live is like around here when people find out you have a machine they will bring you all types of things to sew and a dollar is a dollar. I had a needle awl machine and the needles are quite a bit higher than the needles for the 2000.
  8. On the fish one it should read stripe, striper or striped bass instead of strip bass.
  9. I tried rubbing alcohol to cut dye with and it didn't work. I read on here to use denatured alcohol, and it works. You can get it at a hardware store.
  10. I don't know why you would want to use a conway buckle instead of a regular buckle. A regular buckle is going to be more secure and easier to adjust. IMO conaways are used someplace theirs not much stress and that the buckle doesn't need to be adjusted very much if ever. Plus unless you get a solid brass one they will rust out or corode in no time. Use a real buckle for a dog collar !
  11. You need a 1 inch D ring for a 1 inch strap. Their measured inside. Not sure what your talking about on the square D ring. They make squares to. Weaver is as good as any place to get them if you have a tax number.
  12. Get some poster board and make your own pattern their not hard to make.
  13. In the past i would sometimes send a piece of what ever i was working on with a customers order and ask for their thoughs on how it worked, how they liked it, never heard back from a single person. So for now i have a couple blogers that i will send something to and that's it. I do get feedback from them and some sales. Had one person ask for around $500.00 of stuff. They didn't get anything !!
  14. Really nice work !!
  15. Search drac i know he made some of what your talking about. But i don't remember if he told how he did it.
  16. I have only made a few and i didn't use a liner. The ones that i have seen with a liner had what looked to be regular lining material like they use on a vest of something like that.
  17. 25 or 30 years ago i worked for two different contractors. They were in business togeather at one time and they both told me the same thing we got out of the partnership while we were still friends. It's hard to be in business with another person most of the time. Best of luck for both of ya.
  18. When i built my shop i put outlets ever 3 foot on the walls and ever 4 foot in the celeing and used 4 foot floresent lights with cords so i can move them around. If you put your lights in one place your pretty much stuck working right there. In my shop i had everthing set where i though i wanted. But last year i moved my bench and one sewing machine and i was able to move the lights where they needed to be. Oh you get daylight blubs for the 4 foot lights. I don't have them because they cost to much when i looked. The goose neck lights are nice to have on your bench to if your like me and want need quite a bit of light to work.
  19. A regular beveler isn't going to do what your wanting to do. You need a setup using a razor blade or a really sharp knife. Look in the braiding section Bevan ( search for Bevan and you should find it ) he has information on a string cutter and beveler that he makes and sells.
  20. Rodeo Man i would go ahead and get the bigger 16 inch arm machine. It will sew chaps and farriers aprons fine. I say that because that's what i have and have made several pair of chaps, chinks and farrier aprons with mine. The extra space makes it a lot easier to. On mine i use 277 thread on top and 207 on the bobbin for just about everthing i make. The 346 thread is to big IMO it looks like they were sewed with a piece of rope.
  21. I bet he was one happy little guy !!!
  22. Hi Chris, if i was you i'd get the Al Stholman saddle books that Tandy sells and read them first. You need skirting leather instead of harness leather for your saddle. Their several places to get your leather from the first two that popped in my were Wickett and Craig and Waterhouse leather both on the net. The books will tell ya what tools you'll need and how to make your patterns.Read the saddle making post on here and you get several good tips and advice for free.
  23. I used a piece of granite that was about a 1 inch thick for several years and it worked fine but a 3 or 4 inch thick works even better.
  24. Get the 16 inch arm machine which ever brand you buy. You will be glad ya did down the road if you want to or need to sell it.
