  1. 69 thread is way smaller than artificial sinew.
  2. I use green some times and mix half and half or two to one with denatured alcohol two times the alcohol and it works fine.
  3. Here ya go. http://www.amazon.com/Alvin-Co-FC88-FRENCH-CURVE/dp/B000HEQNFA
  4. You can sand it out. But you will need to go on either side of the dip so you don't have a bigger dip. What i do when i need to glue two pieces togeather espically if their stamped or tooled is take the piece that had the design and put it face down ( flesh side up ) on your side or what ever your cutting from and mark the other piece with grain side up and cut it out and glue. Then sand, stitch and burnish.
  5. Nice work on your belts.
  6. The way i was told to set tension was to sew on 2 pieces chap leather. Try it and see what it looks like if it's still messed up back the tension off ( all the way sometimes ) and see what happens if it's still messed up just tighten a little at a time till you have it right. Most of time that i have had a problem it was because the tension was to tight. As far as the leather picking up do you have a wax pot ? If you do put some thread lube in it that should help for most leather but i have got some leather that the needle just sticks in, If it's really bad i just sew without any thread around the piece and then thread it and sew the piece. It's a PITA but better than messing up your piece.
  7. Around where i live when somebody says a gaited horse they generaly are talking about a Saddlebred horse http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/American_Saddlebred . When they talk about a saddle horse their generally talking about http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spotted_Saddle_horse . May or may not be spotted. But it may have totaly different meaning in another part of the country.
  8. I found this and this. When i looked at the website is said it was down. But there is a telephone listed to them.
  9. I would use new leather, a vegetable tan. In the picture is looks like 8 / 9 ounce just guessing, not sure what that is in MM. I bet you will need to make a form out of wood to form it on. You could use the old seat to check your form. Trying to form it over the springs in seat won't get the right shape, i don't think. Get your leather wet then let it dry ( case ) some before you try to form it. I would cut the leather over size and tack to the form on the bottom and let it dry then trim it to the right size. Good luck and post some pictures of how it turns out.
  10. At least you have something to bargin with ( the extra machine and motor ) to get your stand if they give you any trouble.

    Rope Twists

Ask them to mail them. First class no insurance or tracking should cost around $10.00 or that is what has cost me to mail things to France that weighted a pound or less. Or the best way do it with a rope, yourself.
  12. I might be intrested. Do you have any pictures ?
  13. I think you have done a really nice work. The first two and the last one are my favorites,
  14. Aurelie if i were you i would save my money and not buy a ralide tree. IMO their no where near as a good as a wood rawhide tree. Their pretty easily broken.
  15. It looks like they may of used a footman loop. If you search on Google it shows several places to get them.
  16. Granite as hard and as heavy as it is, it's still brittle and will chip and break. You can get a surface plate from Enco or Grizzly tool for a fair price. It's the shipping that will get ya. Sometimes Enco has free shipping on the smaller ones under 75 pounds. No laughing at you from my end. http://www.grizzly.com/search/search.aspx?q=surface%20plates
  17. Click on the box above close and it will open in a new window with a smaller picture.
  18. On mine i used JB Weld in the handle and it has worked fine.
  19. I wish it wasn't so high to. When i started a #1 hide was 50.00. But just like the rest of us they have to pay electric, phone, water, profit and property tax bills. Plus if the workers are lucky they get paid insurance. Not to mention up keep on eqiument and new stuff to and i'd say that's just a small part of it espically if their a tannery in the states. Kinda like why does a 10 thousand car or truck cost 25 to 35 thousand or more.
  20. I found this by searching remove oil stain from leather and their were several more to look at. Oil Stains From Food, Skin, And Hair I received a panic call from a lady whose son had just that minute brought home a hot pizza and placed the box on her new sofa. The oil and cheese had leaked onto the leather. I gave her these instructions with the first step being to dump corn starch onto the stain. I called her back a week later and she said “Oh yeah, it worked great”. My guess is the powder absorbed the oil faster than the leather could. Of course I don’t know how large an area was affected. This is the best emergency action for sudden problems. Small oil stains can be treated and successfully removed if you have the patience. Corn starch (or in a pinch, talcum powder) rubbed briskly into the stain with your fingers until the heat from the friction is felt. That heat loosens the oil and allows the corn starch to absorb the oil before the leather can. Vacuum or brush the powder off. Repeat until the stain is gone. This method rarely takes out any color but does take out the oil. Patience and persistence are the keys to success. Larger stains from head and hand oil require time in our shop. Good luck.
  21. In the future take pictures of the gun before you do anything hopefully with the customer there and you know if it's something that was there before. I started doing that after a customer said i scratched a saddle that i was working on and i knew i hadn't. Really cheap insurance.
  22. Particle try this link they have lots of colors. http://www.sewingmachineoutlet.com/ricetn.htm
  23. Tinneal i have built a few. But i wouldn't build it unless they left the rifle !! You will want it / need it to test fit as you go along espically if it is a blot action rifle. Their several discusions about making one on here if you search rifle scabbard.
  24. Ray the only thing i shovel is a path to the mail box. I figure it's going to melt in a couple of days around here anyway. But i did find this shovel plow on you tube and theirs a lot more ideals for your shovel.
  25. Nice job on the seat. It looks like a bomb may of already blew a finger off.
