  1. Marble is hard but soft at the same time. Take a look in a Cemetery at the older marble stones the names and dates will be hard to read because their worn so bad and that's just from the weather. Get a granite surface plate from Enco or Grizzly both or on the web.
  2. I wouldn't use the particle board either. It will come apart if it gets wet plus chipping off. I use plywood or OSB. You could put a piece of masonite over the plywood or OSB if you don't want to stain or paint them. If you use plywood i would get C D grade . Your not building a piece of furniture just a place to work and i would check on the price of 2x4's along with a 4x4. Two 2x4's nailed togeather may be cheaper than a 4x4.
  3. If you resized your pictures you wouldn't have to worry about the "stupid up load limits".
  4. Nice job !! Somebody is going to be happy with their new seat.
  5. Nice job on the belt and wristband.
  6. Looks pretty durn nice to me.
  7. Well i think my computer must be screwed up and i know i'm not to smart. I opened up fonts on the control panel and i couldn't get them to open either. It was the same thing with thing ( the quick brown fox ). Tried to update windows and it won't let me do that either. Sounds like it might be time for a new computer..LOL. Bison and Spinner thank you for the suggestions and your help. John
  8. I regstered at Da Font and downloaded a font but all i see when open the zip file is ( the quick brown fox jumped ). How do you print the words or letters you want ? I'd really appreciate it if somebody would explain how it works. John
  9. Cut a strip the width you want, sew it and then cut the keepers to length. I wouldn't buy a machine just to sew keepers.
  10. Go to a store that sells material and sewing supplies. They should have all kinds of patterns or you could go to Goodwill find a vest and take it apart to make your patterns or you can get Tandy's and add on to the pattern till it fits or you can look on ebay for a pattern.
  11. As far as i know Siegel hasn't opened up but you can buy the Siegel leather from Wickett and Craig. . I have used some it and it was fine to work with and nice big sides.
  12. Paul, have you ever tried sewing through the scales / hard points using the warm water ? I tried sewing a piece on my machine yesterday and the horn / scale just pushed the needle off to the side except for one that did go through and the needle wouldn't come out. I don't have a scrap piece to try the warm water way on or i would try it myself. John
  13. If you paid with paypal or used your credit card file a claim/stop what ever it's called with paypal or your credit card company. Save the boxes and take pictures of every thing save your emails showing that you have tried to get in touch with the seller and print the auction out. Keep a paper trail along with pictures. Paypal or your credit card should put a hold on the payment. If you sent a money order i'm not sure what to tell ya.
  14. Give Bob at Toledo Industrial Sewing Machine a call 1 866 362 7397 . I'm pretty sure he sells Juki's and he's a super nice guy. He can tell you if it will work for what your wanting to do i bet. He has adds at the top of the pages on here to.
  15. I have a Juki Pro 2000 from Ferdco. Like i said before buy what ever you want. But 9 inches fills up quick.
  16. You need to buy what ever you want. But i would suggest saving a few more dollars and get a 16 inch arm machine. I really belive you will be glad you did in the long run. 9 inches sounds like a lot of room but it will fill up fast !!
  17. It looks to be made for a right handed person, if it is your strap needs to go the other way. The way it is now a limb can catch it and pop open the snap and the knife may get lost. Nice job on your welt.
  18. I don't think it was done with a stamp because if you look at the top of the picture you can where it's sticking up. What i would do is cut a sheet of paper into strips but not cutting the bottom all the way off. Then take a different color paper maybe two different colors so you can see just whats going on and start weaving. It looks like it goes under three each direction.
  19. Every time i have sent something to Canada the person ordering told me to make sure i sent it through the post office because of the HIGH fees that UPS charges when the package crosses the border. One customer's cost doubled when UPS got done with their charges. It was sent by another company.
  20. Tinneal, i don't know how much water i put in. I just eye ball it. I keep mine in a tupperware type container and the sponge stays in the container.
  21. Has it dried yet ? Did you try using a hair dryer on it ? When i use resolene i put it on with a sponge. Squezee the sponge out not dry but not full either and go over what ever your using it on lighty. Generally i do two coats and the resolene has been thinned down with water.
  22. I was just thinking about how to measure the mix. Are you just using regular medical syringes? I get the big syringes and needles at the farm supply store. You need to label the syringes so you'll know what's in what. I write on them with a dry mark what color dye was was used.
  23. Get some denatured alchiol to cut the dye with. I use a syringe to measure the dye and achiol with. Get a package of syringes and needles one for the dye and one for the alchiol. Pull up 20 or 30 cc of the dye and 2 to 3 times of the alchiol. You can play with it till you get the shade you want and write the measurment's on the bottle so you can mix it again.
  24. Wear some leather gloves when you start pulling it because it will cut your hands up.
  25. The Dot brand was the only one they showed setting the pull the dot fastern. Does the cheaper one do that ?
