Just checked cutesy for leather "kits" (since I've been on the phone all morning anyway!). Rough guessing, if a "kit" for a little "folded card holder" wallet (basically teh same thing as the free pattern on my site) is $25, then a pre-cut holster "blank" must run about $400
-
Free leather patterns. Now how come I didn't think of that?#$!
-
Simple enough to cut out once designed -- no laser, but a die cuts purdy cleanly Question, then, is how to price the thing, where a fella is paying for the pattern, but also aint paying for the pattern repeatedly. So, what's the 'middle ground' here? buy the pattern once paying for the pattern again every time you order a kit. I mean, what's #2 in between 1 and 3?

Using the Al Stohlman book
JLSleather replied to Dave Richardson's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Yours says 1/2"? Cuz mine says make the pattern 3/4" offset. (???) This is roughtly what Stohlman said. He says to leave 3/4", then move in 3/16" for the stitch line (leaving the stitch about 9/16" from teh pistol). You left 1", then came in 1/2" (leaving the stitch line about 1/2" from the pistol). So, about the same thing As for teh left/right thing, most of us have made that mistake [at least once]. -

I admit it.. I never did - and still don't -- "get" that thing about tracing the gun. I mean, I get the idea, but .. well, just google "parallax" I mean, you can change the distance of the pattern just by changing the diameter of the PENCIL!!@#! -
I have two sizes from Angelus, but I LIKE the look of these... durn it.. spendin' money AGAIN http://www.dickblick.com/products/montana-black-paint-marker-empty-markers-and-replacement-nibs/

2nd holster
JLSleather replied to ToddMaine's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
NOFAIRNOFAIRNOFAIR! There's an 'understood rule' ya gotta show the BACK Inlay looks good'n'tight. Maybe leave a little more material above and below the slot? Showin' improvement already! -
Water. Maybe ocassionally a dab of wax on a stubborn piece, but mostly just water. And dye. And elbow.
-
idunno what that means

Yeah, SOMEBODY gotta he capable of a little humor now 'n' then!

Oh, yeah... somebody will say .. WHY so FEW? Because these are not '50/50', but rather made to 'wrap' a bit.

I 'think' I have parts currently for the sig 938 / 238, the G43, the Shield 9/40, the XDs 3 1/4", small and large single mag pouch, and shortly the Sig P320 full and compact models. Have to weed through the boxes to see just what else i have "around". Thread in 207 and 277 in black, brown, some red, and 346 in a grey (ish) ..

Nope, not at all. SOme folks might benefit from this / others maybe not. Either way is fine See there.. I knowed it!

Oh, yeah.. I don't use saddle soap (except on saddle parts and baseball gloves ) so I forgot about that! But it will include instructions, for those who care to look at 'em. Wait for it.... shortly someone will claim that "Jeff said saddle soap is bad and you shouldn't touch it"

Tired of buying a side to make a couple of holsters? Tired of "settling" for low-end leather to avoid a 'minimum purchase"? Hate those "kits" that claim they fit everything from a quarter to a 5-gallon pail? Before long, I'll have pre-cut (DIE CUT) pieces available. Still stewing over just how to go about pricing, just what to include, quick and relatively inexpensive shipping. More dies being made currently. But these will include leather parts die cut from Hermann Oak A and B, and W/C skirting, thread (in a few colors and weights). And the stitch line pattern for THAT firearm (holes not pre-punched - no mindless lining up). So that would leave a fella needing glue, dye, and a needle 'er two ...

Guns I build (holsters) for
JLSleather replied to JLSleather's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Yeah - I "tricked" you with a simple question? Alrightey, then ... The question was '' IF you have a "list of guns", what is your reason?". Some don't know, and some know but prefer not to say, all of which is whatever. What baffles me is how far some will go - and how out there --- over questions which were not asked. I remember that one thread a while back, where people got scrappin' mad that Jeff said you shouldn't use a round knife. Problem was, I've never said that. -
Guns I build (holsters) for
JLSleather replied to JLSleather's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Oh, this came around again? The response seems consistent - "here's a list, but if it isn't on the list I'll make it anyway"- Which - of course - was the reason for my question originally. Initially, my question was about "guns I build for" -- had nothing to do with "blue guns", molds, or wait time. I conclude that the actual factual answer is closer to: 'We have a list because we saw other people with a list, so we figured we should too'. Much like a 'makers mark'.. we have one 'because you're "supposed to". Meh... whatever ... each his own. Silly me - I still sometimes ask a question and almost expect an actual answer. Guess I'll learn ... Must be a 'forum' thing, I guess. Just came from over at 'cutesy', where they have changed the payment system slightly. And I mean almost not at all. And there's a thread in the forums (currently 103 PAGES of posts) full of people complaining about something that is not what what was said at all. Some of them are "tired of being told what to do" (I guess someone made them use cutesy?) and being "bullied", and they are quitting and closing their stores. But not until next month ... -
Yeah, they're dyed. They come with the edges wrapped, so they can be sewn as well without a 'raw' edge showing. WIth the one in my pic, I don't know that I'd machine stitch it (but I might). LOTS of pockets, and I wouldn't want the stitch to tear the edge of a pocket. If you're doing a simple checkbook - pocket on each side - (does anybody do those any more?).. then machine away.

Yeah, teh Chaylor inserts are made in australia, right? They just "distribute" them here in the states - they don't make them there. But I have used them, and I like 'em.
-
I didn't like the SLC interiors at all. Too thick, with a tacky, cheap feel. Like that stuff you used to see in tandy kits, only heavier. On the other hand, SLC does sell teh Chaylor inserts. The ones I've used were actually quite decent. They're a bit more money than some you may have seen, but in my opinion worth it. $30 (ish) versus sewing 13 pockets with lining ...

Thanks! For the 'welcome' AND for not stuffing my mail box

It's not the cost of the lighting, actually. The question that must be asked, if MN has such a "dilemma" about ID cards and govt spending, why are we paying the governor to spend time on this?
-
One more reason to reduce the tax liability in every conceivable way. Your tax dollars at work... MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) — Friday marks one year since the death of ... Prince, and Gov. Mark Dayton has declared the day will be deemed “Prince Day” in the purple state. “Prince ... showcased Minnesota to the world,” Dayton said.... Among other things, the Interstate 35W Bridge in Minneapolis will be lit in purple, as it was a year ago... And somebody thinks I should pay for that?
