freakin frattin no good ....
freak replied to freak's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thank you. Now i gotta start laying out the next one which i'll try using velcro. Still drawing up my graphics for it. Here's a quick pic of the tank on the gun. Think i'll have to cover the hopper in leather to match (the big thing on top that holds the balls) and maybe a grip cover. It seems the neighbors dog has totally adopted my family. As soon as they let him out he's at our door going crazy to get in. At night i have to walk him back to their door. I've never been big on little dogs but i gotta admit,,,, the Tomster is a pretty cool lil fella. -

Thank you all very much. Alex, Yes i'm using eco flo dyes. Here's what i'm doing. I first applied the "range tan" with a dauber, everywhere. Then i used "java brown", which i applied with a brush. I colored all the places you would want antique to darken. I would lay it on a little heavy in those places and as the brush starts to dry i make very short strokes just where ever. Then i use "dr cocoa brown" on the edges. I apply it with a brush as well. I lay this on in many diff coats to achieve the dark shade i want. Just like the "java brown" when the brush starts to dry i blotch the brush to blend the edge color to the center . I also make some brush strokes here and there just like i did with the "java brown". Then i buff the carp out of it and seal with super sheen. That's when you can really see the aging look. Buff the carp out of that and apply one more coat of SS. Hope that made since. I still need to make one more of these. I'll take pics as i go on the dye job. -
Here's the one i was working on while posting the prototype one. Not much on the creative side once it came to tooling a design. Just some very, very simple child like flames. Now i gotta get me some velcro and start the next one and do something about this freakin tooth ache. ARRGGGG !!!! freakin frattin no good tooth ....... ouch

pick and flick or blow and throw
freak replied to freak's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Thank you all !!! I started making the next one off of this pattern. Even thought it's the same zipper design i think it's gonna look alot better being done rite and clean. Same colors but with very simple flames. My first time to basket weave and i'll have to pull the bottom off and try that one again. LOL i don't know what i did but it aint prudy, ain't purdy at all LOL !! Think i might of missed me hole count or missed a hole somewhere. Can't wait to get this one done so i can do the next one and add some of the ideas all of ya have given. -
Alritie then , i'm adding my vote for you to add whatever software you need for more focused pictures. LOL !!! You can't tease us like this mannnnn. Looks great man. Keep on with it !!

That's really nice Karl. Embossing is on my list to things i want to learn to do. After seeing some of your work here , it's really got me thinking about it. Again very nice.

pick and flick or blow and throw
freak replied to freak's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
I totally get what you're saying Crystal. I'll try that on the next one, after the one that's on the table now is done. LOL ! Already cut and dyed. I don't think the paint from the paintballs will affect the leather once it's sealed. Most places won't let you use certain brands of paint for the stain reason and it causes mold on their park. I'm more concerned with the fact that i'm using eco flo dye. We play in the rain and mud sometimes. Guess this will be a true test of dye. LOL !! That's just to freakin funny you know what movie that's from. YOU ROCK !! Thanks for the input. -
I'm always blown away by your artwork and your ability to tool it so crisp on leather. I love seeing your work. I want so much to show my wife your stuff but i know it will give her ideas. Those ideas are on a much higher level then my skills . I truly love your ideas !! Thank you for sharing.

As allways Dave,,,WOW !!! Just love seeing your work. I'de just love to be able to set at your work bench and watch you make one of these seats. You seem to have ever part of it down to perfection .

Nice and tight ! Love the colors as well. IF i'm seeing it rite, i like the slight change in the cross stitching you did on this one as well.

People of the forums can you hear me ? Came a voice from the sky on a magical niiiiigggghttttt. All at once.....Sorry got a tune stuck in me head. Have you ever over thought a project. I try to keep things simple. Simple seems , for the most part, work best and if something ever needs to be fixed it's a simple fix. I've started playing paintball recently. I just love to legally shot the carp out of people. Anyway i'm using a compressed air tank (70ci/4500psi chubby) . We want talk about the price of these tanks but after paying for one i could not justify spending another $30- $50 for a tank wrap (cover) . I've been toying with this off and on. I think i've been over thinking it WAYYYY to much. I've pretty much gone back to my original idea. This is pretty rough as most of you will see. Like the tittle reads this is the prototype or in the leatherworker world, " pattern". I need to make two of these for a friend and myself. I'm hoping i can sell a few at the paintball fields we play at. This is a pic showing it from a few diff angles. Now when i make the "real deal" i think i'll basket weave the lace. Attach my zipper better, that was me first. I think i might make one with 2 or 3 straps instead of a zipper and i'll ofcourse clean me edges up. I think it would look great if it was stitched instead of laced but to tell ya the truth i hate hand sticking. Way to many holes to line up. I'm open to other ways to make this or just improvements on this pattern. More pics for anyone that likes to just look at pic. Thanks for looking and for any feed back, opinions, critiquing and comments. "Not unless rounds funny". Name the movie that line came from.

The Ace of Spades
freak replied to Kevin King's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Whoa !!! Now that's what i'm talkin bout folks !!! THat's a combo that can't be beat. The only thing that makes that seat look better is the wallet and the only thing that makes that wallet look better is the seat. I'm sure all will agree when i say,,,Holee smoking frejoleys batbrotha that's some seriously well done art. I'de say you just raised your own bar on this one man. WELL DONE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! -
Thank you all very much. I appreciate the kind words and support. It feels good when you pour your time and soul into something and have freaks peers of the craft accept it. Especially when i consider many of you to be at a leave i aim for but, still know that when i fall short of that mark i'll still having something i'm proud of. This notebook took me longer to tool then it did anything else i've done. I worked alittle this nite and a lil the next nite and so on and so on. Anyway again thank you all very much for your comments and for your teaching. This is the busy time of the year for me and life has been just flying by the year. I log on , have a quick look around and i'm off to bed. I'm gonna have to change that. I miss the live chat room with ya bunch of freaks !!!

I cut a piece 13 & 1/2" long by 9 & 1/2" wide. Then cut the corners round. I use a nickel or a penny to mark the corners. Once i round the corner i trace that on to a thinner weight leather , like a 2 - 3 oz. then cut about a 1/2" out of the middle of that. On the piece where the pad goes i come down 1" and cut a line 5 & 1/4 " long. I like to punch a hole at each end of that line. This will also allow you to slide the clip on the pen in that same slot, making it a pen holder. The other side i cut in half at a slight angle, making one of the pieces longer then the other. THat will give you the two pockets for the other side. Hope that made sense. If you still can't get it i'll try to draw out a pattern for ya.

Thanks "Ernie" !! You're a great teacher. TomSwede !! You have no idea how many times a day my best friend and i say your screen name as we strike the pose in your avatar. LOL !! If you ever make it across the big water, i'll buy the first few rounds. As for the hairblade, no i use craftool P368. It's a small pointed pear shader with lines. Thanks you Crystal. Someone on here once said they love to see leather dyed to were it still looks like leather. I've become on of those people. I've seen people do wonderful and amazing things with the way the dye, stain or paint their projects and i take nothing away from them.

Life's been fast and i'm just tring to keep up. I forced time to make this one. I made it for myself but i'm pretty sure my wife will snag it pretty quick. I get the felling i'll be making more like it. yeah it's another freakin notebook. It's hard to get with the camera. The lining is snake print leather. The notebook holds a 5X8 pad and has two pockets plus a pocket for business cards It's all so hard to get a good pic of the lift. Every since Bert (ClayB) did the tutorial on how to do a oak leaf, i just love doing them. I'm not that fast at 'em but i'm not sure anyone is. I just love the way they look when they're done. I've gotten to know the people at my local TLF pretty well. When i showed this to them yesterday, the lady told me she was impressed with how far i've come in 2 years ( next month i'll have to renew my membership ) with no classes or teaching. Leatherworker.net has become my classes and all of you that post are my teachers. If i see something all i have to do is ask and one of you will answer. Thanks you all so very, very much !!! freak out...

Inspired by those Rene type cuffs going around lately
freak replied to TomSwede's topic in Collars, Cuffs, Leashes and Leads
That's way cool man. I like every thing about it. I willing to bet that once others in your parts see it,, you'll be making more like it. -
Whoa ! and there is two of them. Those are a true work of art. Simply beautifully !! Thanks for sharing. Look forward to seeing the seat.
-
WOW !! That's freakin nice. Love the lacing, it reallllly sets it off and makes it look very durable and comfy.
-
I like them all but i love the coloring of the one in the middle. A few Q's ; 1 - is it just the angle or is the black one a tad smaller ? 2 - The stitching on the nose, it's looped over at the top but not the bottom. Is this for a reason or just to make some freak think " hmmm" ?? 3 - What's for dinner ? I'm getting hungry.
