Phatdaddy replied to GooseBGL's topic in Gun Holsters, Rifle Slings and Knife Sheathes
Nice design, and finish. How long is the larger knife? -
Very cool. I'd like to try that sometime.

Do you think you could tell me a bit of the details on this machine? Is it built the same or similar as a more common machine that there would be more info on?
-
I was hoping one of you may be able to help me with identifying and providing a few details on this machine. I'm trying desperately to find a machine to learn on and also see if it is worth investing in a new machine for the amount I will use it. I have come across very few used sewing machines in my area and the 2 I wanted were (IMO) priced way too high. Both were Juki LU563 and one was 1600 and the other was 1800 but had some thread. This one is very low priced and I can't seem to find any info on it. The person selling it doesn't seem very knowledgeable about it and isn't very tech savvy and took 4 emails to get me these pics and they aren't that great of angles. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. Kevin

Can you add me to this section too please. -
I thought the lace was 1/8 turns out to actually be 3/32 - thanks guys. I'll get a smaller chisel.

This is my first attemp on some scrap. I was intimidated by this braid but found it wasn't as bad as it looks. Below is my first attempt, I was wondering if the gaps were supposed to be like that or if I need a different spacing thonging chisel or maybe different sized lace. Chisel is 4prong 1/8 with 1/8 lace. Also how snug should you pull the lacing

Very nice work. I don't think I'll have advanced as well as you have in 1 yr. Thanks for sharing and welcome.

WOW! My thumbs hurt just thinking about that many stitches. Way to go, that is a great accomplishment.

So, how has life been on "Cloud Nine"?

Intermittently I have a heck of a time with cramping and or my fingers falling asleep. I find stretching really helps. Do stretches that target the muscles under your arm up near your armpit. I usually grab the door casing slightly above my head and behind me and the roll my upper body to do the stretch. If I do this regularly it never seems to be bothersome, but if I don't stretch for a few days I find it isn't long coming back.

Yes the hole runs through the tip, and yes it does actually cut a small groove where you run it along your line. The cutting will spiral up through the hole on the top as you pull it along. As far as it not cutting and making a groove you may need to do as Aggie says, also play with the angle you hold/use the groover and you should see a difference. edit* My reply is based on this or one of the similar groovers - http://www.tandyleatherfactory.ca/en-cad/search/searchresults/8074-00.aspx

While I am no expert, and won't claim so, I did buy this knife the last time it was on sale and found it MUCH more comfortable to hold than the basic tubular model that came with my deluxe starter kit, also from Tandy.

Cleaning Leather In Preparation For Dyeing
Phatdaddy replied to R Petersen's topic in How Do I Do That?
Ironically I logged on today to look for this thread as i'm making a sheath and inadvertantly must have had dirty hands and got some grime on my project. When cleaning the leather with oxalic acid or in my case today lemon juice do you have to do anything afterwards? Just let it dry before dying? thank you. -
Those wouldn't take much to pull free and the concho be lost i wouldn't think, plus it looks like the profile would be a lot higher. JMO

Those are both really nice! Beautiful. -
I think the cat is out of the bag. very cool.

I recently bought these on sale. I've read their names so many times on here, I had to get them. There are 3 volumes. http://www.tandyleat.../61941-400.aspx I haven't finished browsing the first one yet there is sooo much info and detail. Your pic is a bit large, which makes it near impossible to get a good look at your sheath, however from what I can see it looks really nice.

I really like that design KX! It resembles dragon scales or something. Way to go, you've been busy.
