How to dye like this?
gigi replied to Vo1lok's topic in Dyes, Antiques, Stains, Glues, Waxes, Finishes and Conditioners.
I use similar background/matting tool for 'pebbled' impressions: mine are 'Hide Crafter' brand (PA003,4,5). I would guess among other techniques used here (resisting, antiquing) is also something like this: a piece of cloth wrapped on a small wood block, dip one side in dye (water based or other), remove the excess. Wipe some areas with this (only the top layer will be colored). (I am talking about the first photo, the brown on the black wallet). -

THAT was a cold winter and it's not over yet. It seems Dracula is messing with us lately... EDIT: Where are you from (originally)? Just noticed your name on Etsy. Cool stuff BTW! -

Very nice!! I like the leather quality, the color combination and the fasteners too! -
One idea you can fit on a A4: a pen holder, wristbands (with lining optional), 2 mm is a bit thin but you can do some tooling if you want to practice tooling too. EDIT: ideas without tooling: pocket knife holster, business card holder

It is sewn with the Pfaff 335, NM120 size needle, using a flat-bed attachment recently made. BTW that is the first time using titanium coated needles Gebedur - no problems so far. Thread is 'Coats Epic Supermax' - Tkt30 (Tex 105). Yeah: I hate the small bobbin too: we made a 'stand-alone' bobbin-winder and I use it to prepare the bobbins. This is what I love about the Duerkopp 239-525 (my other machine): large bobbins, it is a flat-bed machine though... Good luck with the 441! Comes with a lot of extras/attachments? I am curious about the capabilities of a heavy duty machine too: never tried one. (first time I've seen one was in 2010 in St.Louis Missouri and it was a Cobra).

I took a couple of photos at a local store today, the orange is the one you need (black one is the one for the grindstone), they are imported from Italy (sorry: I don't know for sure if made in Italy or the brand or about the quality). Those sell under 6 Euro (orange one is a bit cheaper). If you think it's okay I can send it (shipping it's about 5 Euro). HTH

My version of a leather valet tray, made from some leather scraps. Easy, fun stuff to make, also good as a gift - IMO.

How cool is that!! Really nice, well done! Good job, Sweet Pea also! Just curious: how much was the suit? very good quality materials and good color combination. Thanks for sharing!

I have some extra thread I would like to sell: 'COATS Epic Supermax', shipped preferably in European Union, but shipping worldwide is also possible. Those are 300 m spools (so not large spools) miscellaneous colors, can mix and match colors or full box of 10 spools. If interested please PM me for more details regarding available colors. It is good quality thread, I've worked with NM 120 size needle. Those photos are examples but more colors are available.

Absolutely love this Pearson #6

If you are using an iPhone one way to resize them is emailing them to yourself: select the images in the Photos app, select the Share icon, choose email choosing your own email as the recipient. When you tap “Send” that will bring the resize options, choose one of the following to change the resolution: the options are Small, Medium, Large, Actual size (check medium or large). After receiving the email you can save the photos and try to upload again. Another way is to use an app from App Store, like 'Image Resizer free' -

When you write a reply to this topic click on 'choose files' and go to Photo Library and chose the photos you want to attach to message. You are only allowed to upload 1.46Mb (with each message): if the photo size is too big you need to resize/compress the image. -
Beautiful work and great tutorials: thank you for posting! I was watching the one about the leather watch strap: where have you bought your skiver (Nippy NP-202)? Does it have a vacuum device?
-
Thanks a lot for the information!

I'm interested in this too: any other opinions from people using skivers without vacuum device? Is it worth buying one without this device? How are you dealing with it? What kind of leather are you skiving? Seems the vacuum is important in the functioning of the skiver, but that version is more expensive.
