    sometimes....if the leather is cased it is going to get Marked UP more than you want it to be. you'll just have to experiment.........

    I like using an exacto knife also .....but only on thin leather. Get a Stanley knife they have super sharpe blades, i beleive you will like it better.

    I i were you i would go to the Tandy Store and look at the Books of leather designs i bet you would would find some designs of your liking......I M H O. then again why not just get your brand tatooed ?

    take a look at the craft paint at Hobby Lobby or Michaels. they have what you need.

    I USE OIL DYE by fiebings and have not had the problem you have also i was told a long time ago that the leather might have been old.
