I've been into leathercraft for the past 35 years. I've used a lot of different companys over the years. Like most of us, I started with Tandy. I lived in New York until 2 years ago, now New Jersey. NY use to have 5 Tandy stores, & some other stores. But they are all gone. So I have to do my shopping via mail. I still do business with Tandy. BUT I found another source for all my needs, It's S-T Leather They have a web site http://stleather.com/. Check them out, there prices are great, carry just about everything Tandy has and more, at great prices. I don't get anything for this, just thought I'd pass it on to my fellow leathercrafters.

Paul Burnette has a how to book Midas Majic, & it shows all the techniques. 1. stamp 2. dye tan 3. dye border Dk. brown 4.after dry, use leather balm w/ atom wax, to seal the dye 5, antique with med. brown 6. seal with aclilic resoline Thats about all I can remember. Hope it helps

Just Beautiful ! ! ! What color is that ? Was it carved than dyed ? What type of leather do you use ? -
VERY NICE ! ! ! I see a little Robert Beard insperation there. I love combining leather & wood. I think they go beautifuly together. Can't wait to see the box finished. PS: is that a Tandy store I see in the background?

VERY NICE JOB ! ! ! THEY LOOK GREAT. I'm in the process of making a pair for the wife. Did you hand stitch them ? If so, how did you do the stitching holes, hole punch, or awl ? I'm gluing the soles, but I think they still need some stitching. The stitching gives them a pro look. I hope mine come out 1/2 as nice as yours. Once again, great job.

Here are two new womans clutch wallets. The envelop style was made from scratch. I used this new leather I got for the lining, goat skin, really soft. The snake skin backs was this old piece I had for years, my uncle had givin me, finally used it. The other style was a kit from tandy, witch I just covered the back with the snake skin. Let me know what you think.

very nice job ! I make them the conventional way. I like your design. I think you should make both , clip & belt loop. That way your customers have a choice. Always like your work. PS. Are they hand stitched ?

Bracers for engagement
craftsman827 replied to TomSwede's topic in Collars, Cuffs, Leashes and Leads
Tom, Those are some FINE lookin braces ! ! ! The colors realy go nice together. I like the use of the round lace, & the eyelets. They look very profesional. But also very cool lookin. -
I think Brad had the best sugestion. It looks like the leather you used is too thin to lay flat. So by thicking the leather with the stifiner, may make it flatten out. What weight leather did you use ? Unless you have to cement it.

Keyring Pouch
craftsman827 replied to singteck's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
VERY NICE WORK ! !! How do the magnets hold ? I purchased some from OTB, but I havn't used them yet. Your key case looks very classey. Something you might find in Bloomingdales. VERY NICELY DONE . PS: The colors go great together, black & yellowish color -
Cool web site "hermies". It looks to me that the powder he is using, is to make the leather move around easy while he is working with it. Sort of like when a baker uses flower while rolling out dough. It may also help in stretching out the leather. Or what Kevin said, about seeing defects easyer.

Tom, The little bit of white thread, used on the handle.
-
Thanks Shirley. I certanly will ! Listen that is. Also, love your work .

Here is my latest project. It's a portfolio kit from Tandy. Only thing, I added a handle. The wife said, I should have stiched the handle with brown thread. As I look at the finished case, I think she was right. Which I can always re-stitch the handle. Let me know what yall think. PS I didn't antique it , YET, maby I should just leave it.

Very Nice work ! Professional looking ! ! What machine did you use for sewing ? If you did use a sewing machine. I do all my stitching by hand, only because right now can't afford a machine. In the near future, I'm looking to purchase one. Just getting some imput on them.
