  1. Those are some pretty cool patterns. I too would be interested in knowing how this is done. My guess would be they used some type of stencil and airbrush it or possibly screen printed the design on the leather.
  2. A couple of ways to highlight are to apply a resist to the areas you want to keep lighter and let it dry well before you proceed. Resolene mixed 50/50 with water or a liquid latex painted on the areas you want lighter colored are a couple that come to mind. I use either a fine tip brush or airbrush to apply resolene depending on what I want to stand out. I think there are other ways that some of the folks on here use. I haven't used the liquid latex but I understand you need to paint several coats to build it up, then dye or highlight and then carefully peel the latex off when dry. You can dye a lighter color or leave the leather its natural color either way. A word of caution about using resolene.....in my experience spirit based dyes will cut the resolene and I ended up with the whole project dyed the darker color. Do a search on here for block dying or highlighting. I know I have seen some threads with this information. Maybe some folks with far more experience will chime in. Hope this helps.
  3. Looks like the edges were dyed using a small brush from what I can see of the pic.
  4. I learned last week not to leave an open bottle of neatsfoot oil on the bench next to an unfinished project.......
  5. Two very nice projects. The inlay on the wallet/pouch and the antique both look great to me.
  6. Well I got a good laugh out of that one. I know a few folks like this as well. Next time your friend pulls this with you if you are wearing boots, just pull your pants legs up and stuff them into the top of your boots. If/when he asks why you did that just look him in the eyes and tell him it's getting deep in here. I've done that a few times and eventually they get the point or just stop talking to you period. Either way it works.
  7. Pretty slick idea and nice work.
  8. I made collars for our 2 ankle biters, one being a mostly white rat terrier. Took me a while to "finish" them as I would work on them when I had a few minutes here and there over the course of about a month. After they had worn the collars for a few days I noticed the white dog's neck was turning brown in the collar area. Since it had been about 2 weeks from the last time I worked on them until I put the buckles, etc, on I had to think a moment about what was going on. Guess what I forgot to do.
  9. You can always skive it down where the fold will be.
  10. I believe I saw a Kelly stamp once on ebay that was real similar to the "9" shape. Is it possible the border is a combination of 2 stamps?
  11. Give the glue thinner a try. I have a can of the barge cement from Tandy and it turned really thick and yellow. It was in my house so I know it wasn't due to the cold at least since I've had it. I'm not sure if I bought a can they had sitting at the store for a while or if maybe I left it open to the air for too long. I got a can of glue thinner and just started adding it to the glue a little at a time and mixing it really well until I got it where I thought it should be in thickness and have had no problems with it holding anything I glue with it.
  12. Lol I looked and studied and couldn't pick out a thing really....like I said I really like the pattern.
  13. X2 Bob. Got mine in today and they are really nice blades, and seem to be pretty darn sharp.....something I didn't quite expect. For 20 bucks each I think they are well worth the money.
  14. Nice job on all. I see 5 holes in the belt.....with room to allow for future "expansion" on the tongue.
  15. I really like it....the only thing I could pick out is maybe smooth the beveling?

    Best Skiver?

I have both of the Tandy skivers and the thing I found about the black one is the blade placement. For some odd reason I have put a new blade in it and it wouldn't cut for nothing......pulled it out and put it back in and it worked perfectly. Best I can figure it is in the blade positioning. I have no problem with the super skiver.
