The first leather smartphone case I made was made from a Coach purse I found in the Goodwill for $4.95. It was one of their older styles probably dating back to the early 80's, my mother actually yelped when I deconstructed it. Once I cleaned it up it was some really nice leather. I was able to get quite a few items from that purse.

Here you go. I got mine yesterday, but didn't get around to opening it until this afternoon. Trust me when I say you aren't missing out on anything. Definitely not 5 star. (JMO) That plastic strike plate with the sliver of brass in it will be the first thing to go. They gave you two but it wont hold up.

Purse For My Grand Mother
veedub3 replied to Colt W Knight's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Very nice, I am sure your grandmother will love it! Karina -
Are you just using Tandy round punches then making the slit with an exacto knife or the Tandy button hole punches?
-
Oh, my eyes are playing trick on me. I thought one was black and one was brown. Either way it is gorgeous! Karina
-
Very Nice! Love them both!

I tell ya', I learn something new everyday. I only have one rotary punch out of the many I have, that the tubes can actually be replaced on, but I never knew you could get oval punches for them. Now I know. Karina

I was sent the link to my email address. I went to Amazon and looked at the punch. It looks like the regular hand held rotary punch with a better grip, but the reason I was interested was because two of the punches are oval. Haven't seen that on a rotary punch before. (Not saying they are not out there, just saying I haven't seen one.) The coupon code was for 100% off just like she said, and because I am a Amazon Prime member, I get two day shipping free so my total cost was $0.00. Not sure how this could be a scam, but either way it costs me nothing. I would post the link again, but since someone said Colt posted it and apparently it was taken down, I won't do that, but the poster did say that she would post a link today with a discount code for those still interested so lets see if that happens. If not, right not Amazon said mine is scheduled to be delivered tomorrow. If it arrives tomorrow as scheduled, I will post pics of mine for all to see. Karina

Thanks Kash, ordered and since I am a prime member my order total was $0.00. Now that's an amazing deal. Karina

NVLeaherworx, yeah they are just that bad. I ship anywhere from 300 to 350 packages a month with USPS and another 100 or so with FedEX. "THEY ARE THAT BAD!" My packages sometimes are all over the place that each morning I enter my office, the first thing I do is go online and look at the status of the packages that were shipped the previous day - just to prepare myself just in case. Because if a package doesn't show up on time, guess who gets an ear full from the customer. Once we hand over the package to the carrier, we are at their mercy in hopes that they do their job in an efficient manner, and it's sad to say that they screw up A LOT! The post office is so bad, it really makes me wonder who they have working over there.

This could all be the Post Office doing if that is how it was shipped. Those jookers miss-route packages so much I don't even get mad anymore.

Here is my version. I made this about 3 years ago. It is made from 6/7 oz Hermann oak, Fiebings tan dye, lined with ...I forget - some scrap I had lying around, and as for lighter weight leather, it holds up just fine. Karina -
Funny/sad Story About Tandy Leather...
veedub3 replied to Dougster's topic in Leatherwork Conversation
There is no way she would have charged my card on a current order for a mistake "THEY" made on a previous order. No way would I allow them to take advantage of me that way. I wouldn't care if it was a nickle. They made the error, they should eat the loss and move on. If she would have said that crap to me, I would have turned around and returned every single item I just purchased, and called the Corporate office from the store to complain about what happened. -
Wanted; Good Patern For Drumstick Bag.

Maybe this will give you an idea. Karina -
I owned a Skil bandsaw from Lowes and it worked great for the samll projects i was working on! It will definitely work well on leather. I outgrew my SKil and sold it on Craigslist. I now have a Craftsman 10" and a Laguna 14". FYI - Sears has a Craftsman 9" for $107. I would go with the Craftsman over the Skil. (This might just be the Black Friday Holiday price, Not sure, but if you are going to get one, this would be the time to grab it.) Karina

I have to agree, I went in to stock up on hardware and saw the flyer. I was not impressed with their offerings! Karina

Being using a band saw for years now, especially when cutting soles for sandals. (Got the idea from a couple of older threads on here) Because I also dabble in woodworking, I also have a scroll saw that can do the job just as well. If you don't have a band saw and want one, keep a look out on craigslist in your area for them. I didn't need another one but I got a great gently used 14" bandsaw for $150. New this thing cost $700. Of course you would need a space for something this big but the smaller bench top versions are listed for sale on craigslist all the time. On another topic, you can also use your band saw to cut out acrylic templates of the patterns that you use the most. Print out your pattern on the printer, use spray adhesive to glue the printed template to your acrylic, and carefully cut it out. Take the acrylic to the sander to smooth out your edges and you have a template to use over, and over, and over........ Karina

Very nice, I made a floor stitching pony last week. I am farsighted, and when I use the one that you sit on, I can't see a lick, it's just too close (even with my glasses on), and if I make it shorter, then I can't get larger pieces clamped in it. So I made one that is the perfect distance for me to see when sitting in my comfy sewing chair, and it has several adjustment holes to accommodate the large and the small pieces. Mine is 32" high and made from scraps I had lying around in the garage. Again very nice job on the stitching pony. Karina

I have one also and it is something that has been super helpful in my shop. When I looked into buying one, they were over $100, and me being the crafty DIY'er that I am, I ordered an industrial table bobbin winder for $9 off Ebay, took the motor and belt from one of the old Singer 15's I had on the shelf, set it up on a board and done. That is one tool that will always be in my shop. Karina

There is nothing to apologize for. There is no rule that says you can't post a similar pattern. I was just merely stating that someone else was kind enough to post a sunglasses pattern as well. Heck feel free to post as many patterns as you like.

That same pattern was uploaded here by another member as well. http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=59499&hl=%2Bsunglass+%2Bcase#entry383428
