I did some research and was amazed at the history of these simple and early forms of self protection. They seem to vary in style and pretty much just what they had available at the time . I see where Smith and Wesson made them for a time ..

Does anyone have any info about a slap or blackjack as they were called back in the day? They were a type of weapon that would get your attention pretty quickly from what I understand . They would have a steel plate or steel shot in the end and sometimes have a coil spring for a handle all wrapped in leather .. Thank you Itch ..

We have an early Fortuna from the 1950s and we could not work in our shop without it. It allows us to purchase 12 -14 oz leather what we usually use for the bulk of our products.. We then are able to thin everything else as we need.. I recently purchased another Fortuna UA band splitter from Ebay but it sadly arrived in pieces -

We have a #2 and #3 from Ron and like them both very well . Each came with a metal rod to help keep them sharp .. Lay the rod down on a flat surface then lay a piece of 1500 - 2000 grit wet paper and then sharpen.. Follow up with some aluminum oxide powder and rouge and you are all set ..
