  4. That looks very good and will provide a lot of memories over the years. Great job! Thanks for posting it. David
  5. Looks nice, and should last a long time. Thanks for posting. David
  6. Go to a western wear store. I was at cavenders yesterday and remembered this post and they had 5 or 6 of them. Not very nice but you could get a general idea from them. David
  7. I agree with the above posts but do think equipment has and will continue to move into the leather industry as the bigger manufacturers continue to try and minimize costs. However most people on this forum are small shops or hobbyist and either do this because they love the feeling of making something by hand or because they have found a niche that they can fill no one else has. As mentioned above you need to go to a small leather shop and see how unfeasable the expense would be to them. I think that if there was a cheaper way to create a finished product some would use it after all there are some on this forum that use sewing machines, computers, copiers, etc... But to be stamped hand crafted it still has to have hands on it. On a question to you, if you had a choice would rather have a hand made belt, wallet, shoes,etc.... As compared to a imitation leather one made in china from Wally World? Why or why not? Good luck on your dissertation, hope this helps David
  8. Looks good as always, it took me a minute to understand the assembly but you sandwich a stiffener on the flaps right? It came out very nice thanks for posting them. David
  9. Congrats on making the show Cheryl hard parts done now. David
  10. Those came out great. Love the colors and detail good job David
  11. Hat bands? Quirts? Key chain? I really don' have a clue. I tried to braid a key chain a while back using the book, I figured I would start on that and work my way up to a quirt, I had to go to hobby lobby to get the plastic lace with the foam guide before I could figure out a simple 4 strand square braid. Good luck David
  12. Well then braid something. There are a lot of things you can braid for that auction. Notice I said you, I can't braid to save my life. It is on my list of things to learn just not yet. David
  13. Congrats on getting your name in there. The stuff looks pretty neat. David
  14. Don, the expert has already spoken, and he does excellent work also. So I will just try to add some words of encouragement and tell you to stick with it. Good luck David
  15. I would stay in your comfort zone of projects, I agree with Zina with the bling and women spending the most but, stay with where you are comfortable and can do the best work. A lot of people are going to see it even if they don' t bid on it, so make sure your mark and name is on it. Good luck and show us what you decide on. David
  16. Welcome, from Amarillo, projects look good, I would say your carving is really good. What other leather projects do you do? Anyway thanks for posting the pictures and welcome. David
  17. Welcome aboard, that is pretty awesome for your first carving. It looks VERY good. David
  18. Welcome to the forum. I looked at the album and things look good. I really like the depth on the barb wire. Only thing I saw on the critique side is the stitching needs some work it looks like but I could not really blow the pictures up enough to see for sure on my iPad so it could just be me. I also could not get a good look at your edging. Over all I like your work it looks really good. Thanks for posting the pictures. David
  19. Looks good, beating on the dining room table will not make you popular with the management. They get so narrow minded about things like that. I envy the screened in porch though and I have the hat just no feathers in it yet. David
  20. Cool, it got your name and web site out there so it can't hurt. Hope you do good from it. David
  21. Looks good, I think they came out great with the lacing. David
  22. That is what I thought but was not sure, I was going to try that on some I am making, thanks David
