  1. You certainly have to get creative once you start using veg/chrome tans and oil tans. It's possible, but you'll have to invest some money trying the different options before you find what you like. I'm having decent luck with fenice edge agent (it's from Tandy, but I found it on ebay, since I couldn't find it on their website) and fenice edge paint. But each chrome tanned leather is different, and I'm still trying it on different leathers.
  2. LOL, Oh, the irony. I'll take it off your hands for a small fee.
  3. I haven't seen "Once", so I can't say, but I bet the inspiration was a lot more fluid. Maybe the movie is so bad it inspired whoever it was to pull up pinterest - wham! Inspiration. It's actually very non-threatening in a way -- while the products are really kind of nice, they way over-sold the violin theme. It's just too much. It's like dog paw prints or deer tracks. Use it sometimes, but seriously..... too much is no longer cool.
  4. Ha, thanks, Dan. Zulu- Absolutely. Several people have asked if I minded if they used my pattern, and I told them go ahead! The idea only half-way originated with me, anyway. Also, I've run across pictures posted by two different Russian guys who made one, and I thought it was awesome. It's fun when someone else thinks your idea is worth trying. Seeing techniques and gleaning good ideas from others is one of the best parts of leatherworking. People who try to hold onto an idea as their own just get frustrated. :-D There's nothing new under the sun, and certainly not many new bags. Ultimately, the way we all put things together are so different, it will inevitably look different. This was just a little more shocking, though, since it's not just similar, it's strikingly similar, and so much thought was put into it. That's okay, more power to them. They certainly took the idea further than I would have done, or will ever want to do, likely.
  5. lol, thanks, Kiwi - I can't decide if I should be irritated or flattered. Or tell myself to stop being so egotistical - it's just possible they did come up with the idea themselves. People have had the same ideas often enough before. At least they aren't pricing them at like.... $50.00. And they are clearly machine sewn and the edges are unfinished. It could be a lot worse.
  6. Ha ha, I wondered how long it would take before China got around to making a mass produced version of my bag -- Or am I being totally unfair? http://www.auca.com/sale/Violin-Series-Tanning-Stuff-Handmade-bags/272.html I do like their wallets better, though. The clicker cut pieces look neater.
  7. Wow, that is a sweet bag. Like everyone else said, I'll be interested to see what you do for lining, once it's finished. One of the coolest things I've seen.
  8. Buying the Gloss Edge Agent Asap. I've been at my wit's end with soft leathers. Thanks, Ferg!
  9. Nice job! I was trying to figure out if that was pigskin, or if you had specifically tooled the follicle pattern.
  10. I use mostly .8mm for bags and .6mm for wallets. And yes, I need to order again soon from Abbey England. Hopefully they'll let me pay... :-/
  11. Oh, okay, I see how it goes together. That looks like it was a pain to sew.
  12. I was thinking a wallet, or maybe a stitched on piece for a bag. I had only ever intended to do a medium amount of tooling - I hadn't even considered taking it as far as you went. The hand drawing a hand would be awesome! My husband makes mandolins, and he's also thrown around the idea of a whole fretboard inlaid with an escher pattern. Understandably, he hasn't done it yet, either.
  13. Looks nice, I've been too chicken to make one of these. I'm confused at how the box stays together, though. Is there some internal piece holding it together from the inside?
  14. Very nice, I like both of them. Especially the first one, though.
  15. Super cool. I've been wanting to do the birds and fish escher.
