  1. Hmm... I doubt the OP sent that. Sounds more like 25B to me. If I've ever had any trouble with Springfield, they've done their best to correct it generously. If I am specific, I have always been satisfied.
  2. Oh yeah, they'll probably take it back. I think sometimes when you order something online, you get whatever happens to be on top. Like JLS said, they hope you won't bother. With any company, when you take the human element out (like ordering through a website), the process becomes less personal, and they take less care. But for any online ordering I've done (I do it by phone, not through a webpage), if I've specified that I'm picky, they will include my specifications in the notes and are very accommodating. It wastes their money when they have to pay for you to return stuff.

    Cool
  4. Glass shiny edges - I'm jealous. Nice job!
  5. That's a cool idea, even if it's only enforceable on this site. I'd be interested in a reasonably-proficient-seal. I think I might get there, given time.
  6. Wow, that turned out way cooler than I thought it would, based on your question. I don't think you needed help at all. I like that there's a kid in the last picture. My kids always end up in mine, somehow.
  7. Very cool! Nice colors and design.
  8. I usually dye, buff lightly with a damp sponge, buff with a white cloth (until nothing or almost nothing comes off), and then apply neatsfoot oil and let it sit for 24 hours before putting resolene (a sealer you cut 50% with water) on it. If it's still very stiff, you might need to source some leather from somewhere else. Springfield Leather (online) has good leather, not so good leather, and great leather (Hermann Oak, though it's more pricey), and they'll tell you which is which and what a reasonable weight would be for the project you want. + 1 for mandolin - my husband and I both play, though he plays a lot better than me.
  9. Ha, those are awesome. I also really like the Dad Buys a Souvenir ones. Richard, yours are cool and classic.
  10. We got our idea from another leather worker on facebook. Of course, he has about three of these walls, and more densely packed.
  11. What is this witchery?! I already printed the trophy as a poster and hung it over the fireplace, but I am very appreciative of the Gift Certificate. I think you're setting a dangerous precedent, Clyde!
  12. That's beautiful. I love the design and the stitching.
  13. Cool, I like it a lot. I think the variation in color will even out sooner than you think as the leather ages.
  14. LOL, I am very flattered. I will treasure that trophy forever.
  15. Ha, funny! It's awesome that you guys work together.
  16. Welcome to the forum! I've only wet-formed one or two projects, and only made one knife sheath (not wet formed), and thus can't give a definitive opinion. However, most sheaths I've seen are either wet formed or tooled, not both. Both operations would be working against each other. Stamping something supposes that you plan to leave it to dry undisturbed. Wet-molding would pull and twist the leather, most likely effacing or distorting any design you put on it. You really need to clamp anything wet-molded into place while it dries, which makes it hard to stamp after you've molded something. You might be able to get around it by some clever means, but it would take some experimentation.
  17. I have no idea how they did it, but it looks a little like what happened when I used fiebings oil dye over aussie leather conditioner. It has wax in it.. (not by choice, please understand. )
  18. Really cool bags! Especially the one with inlay.
  19. Very nice. I love all the different elements of skill, like Rohn said.
  20. Super cool, Bruno! I love the look.
  21. Cool! Are you part of the Horween Leather Addicts page on facebook? Your stuff would fit right in.
  22. Wow, that is a beautiful bag. Congratulations!
  23. .... I got a strap cutter from Tandy, and either I'm a moron or that thing never worked at all. Probably it was a combination of a cheap tool and me not controlling the cheap tool. Whatever the case, I couldn't get it to give me a consistent strap. At best, I got a wavy line that varied by 1/8th an inch. Maybe I shouldn't be admitting this level of incompetence.
  24. Another vote for Maverick. I haven't bought anything but Horween from them, so I can't rate their thinner garment leathers, but they have a good color selection (it looked like), and they are super helpful and will go out in the warehouse, handle the leather, and describe it and its' condition to you while they're on the phone with you.
