  1. I want to start buying a few nice tools over the next year or so. I don't own a head knife or a skiving knife - I've been using the super skiver from Tandy. Which knife do you guys find the most useful for skiving? I assume people like head knives because they're multi-purpose. I'm talking about a normal (or small one, which I'd probably prefer) head knife as opposed to the (for example) vergez blanchard high speed paring knife: And some prefer this: http://www.handtools-uk.com/product_info.php?products_id=1605
  2. Welcome to the forum, Kristine! Before you dive in, you should search for stingray on this site. Look at a few people's projects, and you'll see the trouble they've run into. Stingray is one of the hardest leathers to sew nicely, and it's expensive, so that will hopefully save you a lot of money and headache. I've never worked with stingray, partly because of the above. However, if I had to, I'd do inlay on top of a piece of veg tan to eliminate the edge problem and hide the stitching line. But that's probably not the look you're hoping to achieve. I know another member was researching clutch stiffness recently (http://leatherworker.net/forum/index.php?showtopic=62432&hl=kymberly), maybe she's figured out something that would work. As you can see, she didn't get much help - not many clutches on this forum, and the ones I've seen are soft. However, I'd love to see your solution to the problem!
  3. Sweet! Very unusual looking. I love the calf, also.
  4. I've been wanting to make that one. Sounds fun!
  5. Chris might not have posted it yet.
  6. Nice job, TRH. I was too busy this month, but hopefully should be able to participate next month.
  7. Sorry, no comments other than this is a hilariously awesome project. Good luck.
  8. I look forward to seeing pictures of your shoes etc. when you get them all together. Welcome to the forum!
  9. I love the one with spalted maple. So nice.
  10. Nice work! They look practically tasty - I love the varied dye job.
  11. Cool, nice cases, too.
  12. Nice! I've seen way worse stitch lines on stingray - looks like you're doing great.
  13. Nice, can't wait to see how it turns out!
  14. Those are really lovely. Who is your supplier? Or is that a closely guarded secret.
  15. Sweet!
  16. Wow, that's lovely.
  17. Nice work! That's awesome.
  18. Thanks so much for the tutorial, Clyde! I'm going to give these a try and post pictures in the next couple of weeks.
  19. I've been putting 3 thin coats of resolene on mine, and I get no bleeding problems. I'm not saying it's a proven edge (I haven't tried it long enough), but after three thin coats (1 every twelve hours) if I rub a wet cloth on it, nothing comes off.
