Basketweave Knife Sheathe (Large Hunting Knife)
bladegrinder replied to LMullins's topic in Show Off!!
For not having the knife on hand I’d say you did great! I had a knife maker friend years ago that was a retired sheriff and hated leatherwork, he sent cardboard cutouts to a guy doing life in prison to make his sheaths. The guy did good work but being in prison he had to use water based dyes that just didn’t look that good.- 16 replies

Here is a Sig 365 inside the waistband holster, in the first pic you can see the mag release, the second shows the mag release clearing the holster.

I use blue guns for guns I don't own, you can see here how the reverse side of the magazine release is visible. the backside of the holster is cut the same way as the front. The second holster is a S&W Shield. it holds it nicely with no worries about the mag release. I wet form and vacuum my holsters to the gun but that has no bearing on the magazine relase issue.

Did your set screws come loose on the fly wheel? Check that, the flywheel might be turning but it’s not turning the shaft. -

I'm getting in some practice carving with this lion face. I did one on scrap to see how it came out and it seemed pretty good so I did another on this sheath. The story on this is in 1903 a game ranger was on horseback in Africa and got attacked by two lions and he killed one with a knife. to this day that knife gets replicated by company's and custom makers, this is my 2024 version of "the Lion killer". this knife will be donated to the Safari Club, Tampa Bay chapter for their auction. this will be my 31st year of donating a knife to their auction. I hope someone likes it and bids high!

Helene passed me just to the east so I didn’t get hammered, winds only got up around 50 mph around me and around eight inches of rain. Milton is headed to Tampa-Clearwater now, I moved from Clearwater to the woods in North Florida three years ago. Lived there around 35 years and seen a lot of hurricanes skirt by but never a direct hit. We always said the big one would hit…could be next year or a hundred years. This is the one. I have a lot of friends down there and I’m praying for them, that area is going to get clobbered like no one could imagine. Hurricane Michael hit my area of North Florida five years ago and I couldn’t believe the damage I saw.

Hunkering down in my place, in the deep woods just outside of Tallahassee. Last night I was in the cross hairs now it shows coming thru a little bit East of me. It’s been raining since last night, that soaks the ground good and makes it easier for the trees to come down, the ones that don’t snap. Keeping my fingers crossed. Supposed to come thru around 11:00 tonight. Prayers going out to anyone in the path of this storm.

I wear 1.5 power reading glasses a lot, especially when I'm making folding knives. bought at Walmart on the cheap. they are a godsend. I use to wear an optivisor but it's a lot bulkier. the screws I use on these are 0-80 which are TINY!

Your stitching looks great. My wife had a detached retina years ago and went thru the surgeries, had gas injected to hold the retina in place then we had to fly so that had to come out and oil injected. Has really bad vision in that eye. Still has issues sometimes so I know what you’re going thru. Your stitching looks great, keep the faith and power on.
