  1. Nice looking sheath and knife! Looks like you have learned to use your new machine well. my only comment on design is that I think it would look cleaner and nicer without all the rivets. If you use good welts you shouldn’t need rivets all down the sheath. Personal preference LOL Keeo on stitching and learning your machine! Gary
  2. You can buy a large sheet of bag stiffener from Tandy - it’s pretty inexpensive. easiest way to obtain binder spring clips may be to buy a couple of cheap binder notebooks at the dollar store and remove the clips. Gary
  3. I have only used gold gel, pens to highlight letters - worked well. Gary
  4. I use small plastic squeeze bottles with very fine metal tips to paint leather. You can get very fine detail if you are careful! Gary
  5. Suggest you remove the needle and pop the hook assembly out and like Matt says, look for any foreign objects in this area. Gary
  6. Hi Youri, You can spray pretty much any kind of dye using your airbrush as long as it is thin enough to flow through the airbrush. Doesn’t matter if it is water or oil based. I use both types and they work just fine. Gary
  7. Beautiful work Mike! Any estimate of how many hours you have into this piece? Gary
  8. I had to move one of the bolt holes in the table of my CB4500. Wasn’t a problem, but still a little annoying. Worked fine afterward. I would also contact the seller - looks like you may have a defective table. Gary
  9. Second sheath looks much better than the first! Edges look finished and smaller stitching is more appeal8ngnto the eye. Well done! Gary
  10. I sometimes use rubber cement to glue leather to a vinyl kitchen placemat. Pulls right off when you finish tooling. You can buy them for about $1 Gary
  11. Yin, I noticed you have a cash only sign on your table. This might be part of the reason your sales didn’t go well. Seems a lot of people nowadays carry very little cash with them - everything paid for with credit or debit cards. If you have a smart phone, you can get the small card readers that plug into your phone - might be worth trying even though you will have to pay @3% card fees. Gary
  12. I’ve been using the grooved roller pen and it works very well, but I’m looking forward to trying out this new pen. Only downside is shipping can take 3-5 weeks. Gary
  13. Nice job! Hope it doesn’t leave a basketweave impression on his cheek. LOL! Gary
  14. Thanks! I found this item on Amazon for $7.99 including shipping! Gary
  15. Where did you find these? Gary

    New guy

Welcome to the forum! Look forward to seeing your projects. Gary
  17. Cool! Hope you aren’t working at a hospital right now LOL! Gary
  18. I think it comes down to one trick - practice, practice, and more practice! I use an old cast iron clothes iron that has a piece of leather glued to the bottom to hold the tooling leather in place while I work on it. It’s easy to move the leather around by picking up the iron to move your work. Good luck - you should keep improving the more you practice! Gary
  19. I have a 41 year old ShopSmith woodworking machine that uses this type variable speed system. Works well, but changing speeds by turning a crank to change pulley size does not allow for smooth and easy operation. Speed crank is not that easy to turn, especially at low speed. Gary
  20. Nice job! Angle looks kind of steep - did he specify that much of a forward cant? Gary
  21. Try attaching a couple of 3’ pieces of 1.25” PVC to your table legs using hose clamps or even duct tape, slide 3/4” PVC pieces with “L” fittings at the top inside them, another piece of 3/4” PVC cut to fit between the L’s and you have a simple 3 piece frame from which to hang your sign. If the 3/4” PVC flexes too much, slip some dowel rod inside to stiffen it. Never actually tried this, but just thought it up and it seems it should work! Gary
  22. Beautiful job on the carving! What kind of leather are you using? Looking forward to seeing the completed project. Gary
  23. These dyes normally cause the leather to dry out a bit - I apply neatsfoot oil after dyeing, then finish. Have not had any particular problems with cracking. Gary
  24. Agree 100% with what Ferg says - seems easier to paint when it is thicker consistency and if you try to go back over even a few seconds after applying the paint it gets blotchy. Gary
