  1. Number 1 - properly casing your leather will make a world of difference on the quality of the impression and the ability to get good, clean, consistent marks. Some cheap cheap geometric stamps like basketweave are made crooked from the factory. I have a Tandy craftool weave stamp that you can't keep in lined up in an area much bigger than 2"
  2. Yikes. That doesn't sound very fun. Have you called Ron over at Techsew to see about some customer support? I use a #23 leather point needle to sew #138 thread in leather.
  3. I can't get my Consew 206 to sew 207, I have to use 138.
  4. Something that I learned the hard way is that, I only do 2 light coats of neatsfoot oil. Then I have to force myself to let it sit for a day to absorb evenly through the leather. If I try to apply enough oil that it gets soft right away, then its basically soaked and changes the color.
  5. I have this on my consew 206. great addition to my machine
  6. I had to step up a few sizes to sew biothane material on my machine. i wasted a lot of thread till I got that one figured out.
  7. I thought I read that cobra steve had to have surgery recently.
  8. The secret service use to carry sub machine guns in a similar rig. I believe they used Uzis and not Macs though.
  9. If its a consew 226 copy, I think 400 is a steal. best of luck.
  10. I would imagine the hobby leather worker is about .02% of companies like Consews business, so they probably just ignore us for the most part.
  11. Howdy I had an orange biothane collar on my Beagle from the time he was a pup til he died.
  12. My consew 206 has two alignment dots. One on the pulley wheel and one on the machine casting you need to align to remove the bobbin easily.
  13. I use the red label Weldwood. I haven't had any reason to stop using it.
  14. Im keeping mine to sew Garment leather and smaller stuff when I upgrade to a big machine, but I am a bit of tool hoarder.
  15. Was the saddle made in Arizona or Texas? Does the Logo have a steer head? Without seeing it in person, I would value it around 500$
  16. When I bought my consew 206, which can sew 3/8" leather, I thought to myself - I can't imagine needing to sew more than 3/8" of leather. I didn't have the machine 2 weeks before I was needing to sew more than 3/8" leather.
  17. If you want to sew more than 3/8" leather, I think you will be hard pressed to get a used machine for 600$. Medium duty machines do pop up occasionally for that price though.
  18. Leatherworking is not a cheap hobby. I got into it wanting to make a few simple guitar straps. Now I have thousands of dollars worth of stuff.
  19. Used leather machines don't pop up often, so finding a good deal on a used machine is tough. I looked for almost a year, but I finaly found a good used Consew 206 for $400. Then I spent ~250$ on a servo motor, new needles, thead, and a few mecanical issues. At the time, that machine was 1300 new. Before that, I tried to make an old Singer cast iron machine work, and it just wouldn't do what i needed it to do. Luckily, I cleaned it up real well and sold it to a lady who wanted to use it as a decoration in her house. Best of luck with your search.
  20. If you look long and hard enough, used machines pop up that are in the 400-500$ range. However, New machines capable of doing any real leather work are going to be well over $1000
