  1. you can wash them in a washer. use like a woolite. there is a chap wash out now also. but make sure you use a detergent with no bleach in it. wash them in a machine then lay them flat to dry. if there a bit stiff when dry put them in dryer on cold setting with some tennis balls for a short bit and they will soften up. if the suede is flat you can get a brass brush--these are soft bristle--and brush the fibers up. as for the grease spot that will be hard to get out. if they have silver buckles and conchos take them off if you can. if they have a tooled yoke or are smooth leather you cant wash them this way. hope this helps a bit. Bronc
  2. do you mean like the wide one with the three straps or two straps? I do have a pattern for those. they are easy to make. but its at the shop. Ill have to look. Bronc
  3. well, after doing bike rallies for quite a few years i always get the berage of the same questions. when I go to shows i use an old 29-4 with no motor its a tredle and an old anker its just like any old singer. well this is the questions i get--do you sew patches on? (no i just hauling these machines around to hold my canapy down. thats what id like to say anyhow lol) I also have about 600+ patches hanging around in my booth for sale so dah more than likely I sew them on to. Do you sew on leather?(this question is asked as Im sewing a patch on a leather) Are those machines old? (im like ya one dont even have a motor on it) How old are those machines(lot older than me). well people will ask me to if i can fix anything I go if it can fit under my foot of my machine I can probably fix it. but I do have a sign on my machine at shows which has been a joke now it says "just cant fix stupid" and everyone gets a kick out of that and of course i get harassed about to lol. its all in fun most come into the booth just to listen to my conversations with customers lol. the comments after the questions is whats going on in my head. the answers id really like to give. but i just smile n answer them. I should blow up after the 50th time they are asked but i have lots of patience.
  4. im taking it you want a stiffer bag? Id look at a harness leather or a heavy latigo. they come in a black. check out siegal or hide house or some of the others that have been listed on here. I use a latigo its kind of waterproof. anything would be better than the premade junk. Bonnie

  7. your friesian looks so wild lol welcome to the group youll learn lots. realy like your headstalls good luck.
  8. very nice. had someone ask me about building a roy rogers type headstall so trying to thunk up a design amongst all my other projects lol. I like it the horse people like flashing up there horses.
  9. check out walmart belts they run from 12-18.00. I charge 20.00 for just a plain strap with a cheaper buckle on it(not the tinny ones the ones that are like 2.00 or so from tandy) anything with a design go up from there. n i live in the cheap area same as you but when they buy a belt at walmart n it last a month or 2 they will come to shop and get one from me and no quams. I get the "thats to much syndrom" but you will sell at least a few belts at a show. Belts are popular most shows i do. but it goes in spurts. secret to selling at shows---have lots of items under 10.00--key rings, bracelets, etc cause these will go faster than a larger item and they do add up in the end if you are paying for your booth. Bonnie
  10. I use the top elastic part of old socks and slip it over the spool. once it get past half a spool it will hopefully stop unraveling. I know i can be a pain when your sewing n the thread breaks cause its wrapped around the spool base lol.
  11. check out the local fabric stores or walmart in the fabric sections. there is pattern books if you look in accessories they have purse patterns. as for the inside ya just got to design your own. or go to resale shops n get purses to tear apart for patterns.
  12. nice job on the fish by the way they are a bit hard to do. but you coloring is nice to.
  13. hi I was a 4-h leader for 27 yrs in horse and leathercraft. as doug says its hard to work with a group unless they are on same level. I also do demos and do stuff with the cub scouts n girl scouts also.
  14. thanks. im sure that theres no right or wrong. each way a person does things is to however they like plus everything leather crafters do is always work in progress. each project is done differently and each person has there way of doing things. just keep experimenting. my next cup i might do differently. thats the fun of doing this craft. ya learn as ya go.
  15. hi heres a place that has lots of stuff for the automotive trade. they are very helpful also ive talked with them. If they dont have it they will try to find it for you. http://www.yourautotrim.com/auto.html they have some leathers. hide house has lots of upholstry leathers also.
  16. heres a pair of kids chaps rodeo style(batwings) kids loved them but out grew out of them already i guess lol. the first picture shows what they look like the second one is the one that shows the colors better. they were a lt grey/off white base with a burgundy trim. sorry pics not so good.
  17. someone on here had a dice cup. I donr this for a customer which i guess will be used in a bar so I guess ill find out how its going to hold up lol
  18. ok heres a question where do you find the tool to do the round edge on the trim with the spots on? I know of the rosette tool but to do a straight length of it what or where or how do you do that edge? I think i know but like to hear from you. beautiful work love them.
  19. well put Billy. Ive been one who dont charge enough then I got smart lol took a while but when you get comments like I can get it cheaper at walmart or the truck stop I finally said go there and get it. youll be back cause you know what the quality is. Ive got people who give me a hard time on replacing zippers in coats n stuff Im going it takes this long to take it out this long to put the new one in then this amount for the zipper a good metal one. then i get well i can get a whole new coat for that. then I go youll be back cause that zipper will go out. they wake up after a bit or they never come back. never a loss there is always more to show up and do pay what its worth. when I have time at shows Ill do some tooling then i have watchers then they start to realize that its not one big stamp that it takes a lot of time to put in those patterns on something. then I get orders. just do what ya got to do. if this is your living ya got to charge.
  20. you can make stuff similar. change something about it. color, handle, type of leather etc. as long as its not exact and you dont use there logo. logo is usually trademarked but not the bag usually. but if you change it slightly no infringemant. thats how the copy cat companys do it. like coach. they have the C logo on the bag all over or on a tag. theres a copy cat they look the same but use a G instead. remember dont make it exactly the same. do your own slight alteration Ive done the budweiser hitch(painted on saw blades) but there trademark is in there name not the horses n wagon. so no budweiser logo its ok.
  21. very nice tutorial. Im planning on doing a few things. got a biker party at a nudist camp lol so going to make some stuff like this. this campground not far away n they have a lot of this alternative stuff.(just speaking in mild way lol) my mouth is more expressive if I talk at ya in person lol. they are after me to come to all there events. most things dont bother me but im sure i could get a bit red at a couple of these events they hold. I know the owner. so Ill leave it at that lol. thanks again this is a new area of leatherwork for me. sort of :angel_not:
  22. Nice job. I get lots of different type of stuff like this all the time. I deal with the bikers a lot and the are very partial to there leathers. some that i repair most people would chuck. but there paying for it so i fix them. lots of altering in my shop lol.
  23. tandy has an adapter that you can take any concho and turn it into a snap head check there. as for the chain its a wholesaler i deal with for my biker leathers n stuff i retail they are not a parts supplier just offer a few things mostly all finished goods. got to have a resellers number or you can purchase retail plus its a quantity deal thing. PM me if you want more info. thanks. same with the concho/snap heads i do have access to them also the none threaded ones.
