  1. thanks for the chuckle LumpenDoodle2...
  2. HDPE rod head with homemade stacked leather handle...brass fender washers...acorn nuts and threaded rod.... marble rolling pin section to add weight... this is off now as I made a larger heavier one. Not fancy but works great and was not expensive and just fun to know I made it myself. I have the parts for one almost ready to go that will be filled with bird shot to try and create a dead blow maul. And then I will try tapering the head on the belt sander... There are other great posts where folks have made much more polished (literally sometimes) mauls but in the end they do the job.
  3. Thank you Brian and I must say I am most envious of your quality control K9.... he looks like a great shop companion.
  4. I thought it would be fun to start a thread where folks can post pictures of their stitching herd. Ponies or horses (or clamps - whatever) , hand made or purchased lets have a look. Here are my horse (made by my furniture repair master brother in law but saddled by me) following the classic design of the foot bar and ratcheted notches but he used a cable instead of a strap. still it works great. I have long since this original picture changed the profile of the top of the jaws as these were a little to thick and I couldn't get my hands in close enough in thin work where the stich line is close to the top of the clamp line. and my pony made by me from oak floor boards and MacGyver hardware with tie down strap - ratchet tensioner, swivel base and can sit under my legs on my stool or slot into a chair I adapted just for it. Lets see the stitching herds folks if you care to post them I know at least I would like to see them.
  5. Thank and All at one i believe... haprs in different ways.
  6. Pineapple!! looks good. I like the pebble BG myself.
  7. Well I am definitely not a cordwainer!!! and 2x on the difference of the awl over the pricking irons. I started with awl and keep coming back to using it from the most part.
  8. Wow good for you. I am not a cobbler so no comment on the craft but I like the product and that you had the stones do try it!
  9. I get as much of a kick out of the tools and jigs and creations than the end products! even when I am making things myself. Like living in an episode of "How it's Made".. I love process engineering.
  10. Thank you... toyed with painting or staining them but then thought it sort of looks like wood.
  11. Yes looped for 1.5 inch belt nice and snug
  12. Holy cow that's amazing for "a couple of hours"..... what's inside the wallet?
  13. Just seems to have helped me when I make these. I am a 34 waist (at the belt and perhaps 38 just above it!!) but Rick is much bigger and he says it helps too so... worth a try. good luck with the next one. Pancake works great on the strong side like this one worn from 230 as far back as 430:
  14. thanks and yes the loop on the back helps since where it would sit cross draw around 10-11 o-clock is more difficult to wrap around the hip bone if it had 2 wings.
  15. Made for a friend of mine who is ex-US special forces and has a few of my sheaths and holsters and keeps coming back for more.... 3 layers 10-11 oz at the welt. Hand stitched.
  16. Design was by the owner and he wanted a walnut finish to match the grips on his pistol ( mine shown stock) and I think it is an OK approximation. 10-11 oz. 3 layers at the full seam welt. Hand stitched.
  17. Made for an old high school buddy who is in a blues band now. He wanted old looking so I used parts of the hide with marks etc. and let the colouring blotch a little... he is happy so I am happy.
  18. Oh my. I was just looking at the good work and missed the gong show... sewing machine with toothless dogs? Or the child forced to make it was so shot the could really reach the machine?
  19. Nice welcome back project. With those belt clips I started attaching then to the back piece of leather between it and another patch just to hold the clip... not sure if I have a picture but it ensure no metal on the inside of the sheath or holster. What kind of knife is that beaty?
  20. Thanks Brian. I hope to produce some more detailed pics tomorrow if I have time. people like to see edges, blades and guns!
