plinkercases replied to plinkercases's topic in Leather Sewing Machines
HBARK thanks for your experience. Did you pay any tax with Bob or just our HST? and great to hear they didn't charge you any duty. -

I suspeft shipping from AB to ON may be almost as much as a leisuely drive down tonsee cowboyBob and pay up at the boarder.... Still cuirous if i would pay all the US taxes at point if sale then GST at the boarder... seems unlikely but a factor... -

What's Your Handle? (Origins of your maker marks)

Plinkercases comes from my "company name" Plinker Gunleather and Special Cases. (Plinker in that I started by and continue to primarily to be making holsters for the airgun community) (Special cases in that I also make/made a lot of epipen cases and special belt cases) and the avatar is a derivative of an illustration on the cover an HH Heiser catalogue. I have two maker marks... well one maker mark and one "company" stamp. -

When used together I can cut things in an adrenaline fueled frenzy in the dark! -
Just realised by belt side EDC when a the farm looks like a batman belt type arrangement. Epipen, S&W M&P 11B, Thorfire TG06S.

Well found. And I love the description "which make you have a smooth experience in sewing stitching lacing..... for any other uses requiring that missing third hand." and the closure mechanism looks interesting and I wonder of there is any spring action built into it...

Thanks Bob this is what I was hoping to hear. one more silly question... would we pay all you local taxes and our GST or just ours since we are taking out of country? -

Bob how does duty and inoort tax etc affect cross boarder shoppers either shipped or pickes up? I am in Troronto and aware you are relatively close but it is all that inter country stuff that can impact over all cost. -
Curious if there is a dealer for the Cowboy machines in Canada and ideally Ontario? the web seems to indicate our favourite dealer here is the North American source. I found a TechSew dealer 1.5 hour drive from me and was hoping to compare to a more locally sourced Cowboy machine - exchange rate, duty, shipping (or driving down to get them) etc... all being equal considerations...i.e. note necessary.

First leather project
plinkercases replied to DanielleC's topic in Purses, Wallets, Belts and Miscellaneous Pocket Items
Excellent design and for first go it is a fine execution... loads of info here about stitching and awls versus irons and scribe versus groove and all stuff like that so read up and experiment and based on your start you will progress quickly and please post as you go. -
nice looking rig....but it hides the gun! I like you combination of stamps fro the belt boarder tooling.... and that's a lot of stitching for the loops.. well done. The only thing that catches my eye by way of improving holster work is possibly tightening up the gap between the tooling , main seem stich line and edge of the pouch... holster tooling is nice too. is the little "face" on the strap a custom or combination of stamps? ...hard to tell.

Cant help but think of the lesser know Johny Cash song "a girl named Sioux"... And yes welcome Jake.

Stamp Standing or Sitting and work surface hight
plinkercases replied to plinkercases's topic in Stamping
Thanks bruce. Do you havr side lights to avoid shadows? -
With the thread about the hitting sticks and the description of the motion and having the elbow on the table I began to wonder.... How do folks find their best positions for carving and stamping (not pounding/punching)... SO... Sitting? - if yes where is the work surface relative to your body? OR Standing? - if yes where is the work surface relative to you body?

My work pack finally lost it and I needed something quick (I carry 2 laptops..) so I took my first stab at a pack. Made from road side couch hide and tan harness leather with chap zippers it does the trick and was a real learning experience. not fussed over harness leather straps edge finish as that will all happen naturally over time but will still give them a hot of oil. Made a small back to run inside with glasses. power supplies adapter and chargers etc.. outside pouch more accessible things like pass cards and ear buds etc. Folks at work and home seem to think its a little cool. Learned lots about planning the assembly and order of operations etc., and now looking to use the lessons learned to make by young fella new computer bag for his new gaming laptop which made him so happy I think he peed.

Ok i will fully support working to The Boss... still my all time favourite and especially before The River... then ok with Tom Joad. Emy Lou is good for my soul as well... i am alsi old it seems. I used to nees outside noise to cover the inside noise but am now very happy in silence ans in fact seek it where and when i can.

I can see that holding the stricking tool as illustrated keeps yoir arm and hand and tool out of the line of sight to the work... i struggle sometimes seeing the work and avoiding shadows etc... i am going to try this even if with a chunk of wood to see of makes it easier to see the work. I also like the idea of resting the elbow and seems like it is a more joint friendly motion... I assume when using this technique you sit at the bench.
