  1. I use a combination of the non-slip quilting rulers, cork backed, and long clamped down straight edges... one is a drywall square...now I will try the thin layer of glue on templates thanks for that idea.
  2. I agree... I have a new hero and I haven't watched nearly enough of the stuff on YouTube as I want to.... there is something to said for "lazy" people working more effectively. There was a work place productivity person who was asked how she got that way and she said.. "because I hate working but know I have to do it...so I find ways to do it well, once, and without wasting time or energy." I get that. I can see why they called Fred a national treasure. and a humble man for sure...
  3. Welcome back to the forum and I love your work.
  4. I think the FORK LIFT says it all really...... a few hours ago had to move 85 percept of my shop (work bench or castors) 4 feet so the furnace guy could get at the furnace.... leather I can move with one arm... and it isn't that big an arm. I also would love to visit some day... with some cash and a pick up truck.
  5. Yup even with putting a big LH or RH "THIS SIDE UP" on the patterns I still get some flip flops cut... I usually finish it anyhow for the practice and put it in a drawer or post it for sale on one or two of the forums I am on for airguns and powder burners... no shortage of cross over there for people who also like knives..
  6. Where are you shipping from an would you ship to Ontario Canada? And any saddle skirting? And I dream of finding dumpsters like in the photo above..... just sayin....
  7. Sheilajeanne that look almost like a funky sporran. very cool. And yes I am sure product contribute to these issue related to dye penetration. I am waiting fro my "tandy" eco-stock to run down to order some feibings and try out.
  8. I always (well at least when possible) give the piece one more go with the colour after assembling or at least do a pre fold/bend and dye again to avoid this very thing. Sometimes even do a pre-shape of the piece when doing the first go with colour.
  9. Certainly sturdy. I like that finish. What is it?
  10. Beautiful work and thanks again for sharing your finishing process... I was looking at the loops and thinking something looks funny then I realised that as a CAS shooter I always think of reloads as 5 rounds.... never 6... so I am conditioned to think in groups of 5. Someone is going to feel real proud on the range with that rig for sure. How many hours did you put into it?
  11. Yes well done. it looks very stylish and suits the watch well.
  12. I'm sorry I cant help but I had to mention that that is a great name for a band...the "Wobbly Feed Dogs". Hope get some helpful feedback....
  13. I used the Tandy something Flo acrylics. first time using them since getting them on sale a few years (?) ago.
  14. Thanks lads. fredk I agree that the letters need to be "knocked down" a little. I am not a fan of painting on leather personally but he is thrilled so that's all that matters. Retswerb (Brewster?) The keeper is closed with stitching and attached by 4 line 16 snaps so it can come off for a new favourite band... I'll see if I can get it off him long enough to take picture.
  15. My son A) loves Foo Fighters and B) gets a reaction from metal belt buckles (doesn't like tucking his shirt in..) so this is the first thing out of the newly organized farm shop. Based on the mechanic buckle less belt this seems to meet his requirements. The FF larger keeper can detach so if he changes bands.... Biggest lesson here was that my hands are way less steady than when I was painting military models.... way less...
  16. Excellent work and I am also a copper rivet fan. The staple gun method is one I like as well. What weight leather did you use for these?
  17. Very nice indeed and especially for having only been at it for 5 months. Where did you get the closure hardware?
  18. Go for it.
  19. Alpha2 that looks Alpha1.
  20. That's a very nice holster and you may want to give yourself a raise in the skill department.
  21. Good solid practical peace of holster Jake... I think there may be a forum rule (or should be) where the guns and baldest have to appear outside the leather at some pint. They are as much fun to look at as the sheaths and holster. Sometimes bear scat also has 9mm and 357 handguns in it.....
  22. if tis what I think it is I would like to know how to disarm someone coming at me with one.. I think Monty Python have a how to video on that. ComputerDoctor you certainly have a style all your own which is intriguing... I see lots of maple leaves... you could almost pass for a Canadian!
