  1. I was in there two days ago and had to keep chanting to my self "Stick to the list....don't look round....stick to the list...don't look around"... I made it.
  2. Tandy has the legs and connector as a set: https://www.tandyleather.com/en/product/tri-leg-assembly
  3. Bruce any way to post a shot video of you in action with one?
  4. If these are for your family and their bibles then you are a very gracious and giving father yourself. These will last (almost) as long as the Word they are protecting and give honour to. Very well done.
  5. Nice job for sure. I know what you mean about concentration versus having something just going in the back ground. When I am at my best the room can be silent and I have 4 syllable mantra that I use along with the stich rhythm and the whole thing becomes very meditative.... or sometimes it becomes mediocre!! or just a mess.... came back to hand stitching after almost half year off and it was a gong show for the first few pieces then settled down again. Mind you I think its like that for all the various activities in this craft even machine sewing. More is betterer.... and we see all the flaws even some that aren't there. I have some old shoe leather haven't worked with yet but this is a good idea for a use thanks, and again mice design and execution.
  6. Nothing to laugh at here.... I am finding as I move to the larger space it is actually less efficient since things aren't at arms length...in fact I keep reaching to where they "were" in the small home shop and there they are gone... I am still amazed how over time I slowly fit all kinds of stuff in that just seems to keep coming out... and yup LOVE your window!!!!... and hat.
  7. That is the way I am leaning for sure. the table machine I have is Ok fro what I need in the soft stuff and I may add a servo... walking foot table machine with a little more oomph in the middle weight (or layers) of the soft stuff...mostly upholstery I use to make packs and shooting bags etc.
  8. Nice old looking rein rounder... and what stitcher (?) is sneaking in on the right?
  9. The you Uwe... you... Machine is in good working order and in use the seller just has the one amongst his stable of machines and all the others are Juki, He doesn't really need to sell but thought he could use the room and be a on brand shop for simplicity. The servo is a "Reliable" brand. it comes with selection of feet, bobbins and needles. the 1295 Looks well maintained and is asking 1,800 Canadian and is in driving distance from where I live. so... is tempting .... the issue of cost of ownership, parts service etc. is a prohibitive factor. the 545-H3 is 1,200, driving distance, comes with large bobbins, thread, needles, drop down guide, service with reducer and is an in use machine asking 1200 Canadian.... perhaps cheaper cost of ownership but table make sit less project versatile.... to make things even more goofy I just got a line on a new Techsew 5100 at a sale price we are working out.... I may just "buy once and cry once" since I have a solid table machine (though not walking foot) for my bag type work.... I realize I am now talking apples, oranges and bananas but that's how my old head works it seems.... More to consider and available funds after the holiday may make the decision for me! Thanks again for the input/advice.
  10. You have made it look like a lot meatier piece of leather than 3oz.... nice work. always a danger the lifter will go right through on the light stuff but you found the perfect balance it seems.
  11. Thanks folks... getting a little weepy now so I have to go back to work. Thanks... really... it means a lot. WAIT!!! oh crap now I see what you might have thought I was referring to...wow... how embarrassing.... but still...thanks.....
  12. "motivational" is a very diplomatic word for it! I can identify. However, while when I am in the basement they don't come down they do all seem to decide they need to ask me something... loudly... from upstairs. For a while Wednesday was "my night' when there were no commitments so I would go down there and work and do my laundry and shoot pellets gun while things dried... everyone new Wednesday was "Leather, laundry and lead night" for dad.... seem no there is no time any of these things...even laundry... but this too shall pass.
  13. the third and the more caught my eye. Nice work and design.
  14. Keep practicing and it start to be more fun than worry and your first pieces look way better than some of the runaway Frankenstein stitching I start off with... and can still get especially if tired...time to stop for sure. I can identify with the heavy foot. My table machine is a clutch deal and sometimes when it start to speed up my brain tells my foot to put on the brakes so... push down on the pedal.. weird but that's what happens. I have fooling with the top end limiter which is just changing the connector rod length but I think I need to actual use both or something fixed to stop the pedal from going too far down... I envy you servo folks which allows you a solid top speed limit. Enjoy it and keep showing us the progress.
  15. And Google translates cylindraceus to Chinese as...cylindraceus... so it meant something to them! And in English yes it refers to a family of cactus that all seem to have the term "barrel' in the name...so you can see what they were heading for perhaps. hey as long as it "makes a better effect" it cant be all bad.
  16. My wife has always said I shouldn't worry if mine was as big as others'... but... I could use bigger shop at this stage in my life. AND I have natural light envy as well seeing MakerUnknowns space.... my dream shop will have south facing windows and if possible sky lights to get as much natural light in as possible.... and anything is better than my basement spaces.
  17. And you sleep and eat when?..... more great looking stuff thanks for the inspiration.
  18. In Canada we have a place called the Metal Supermarket. I drop in occasionally and look on the off cut shelf and get plates and flat bar which I use as loop straps etc. all just bought buy the pound a little at a time. flat bar can also be clamped into the vise and reach onto items for hard to get places. I also drop in at my local fabricator and look at his cut off/out pile for odd shaped plates etc. to use or to shoot at!! I also pick these up when I see them at yard or junk sales and they are great. I have a few so I have ground the shapes so I basically have one to fit almost any odd place I need to get...when I forget to the hammering before assembly or it just isn't possible any other way... And I picked up an old rail section some where along the way that is useful to. And yes I have the Tandy anvil but never use it now I have all my other options. For weigh down work for tracing or gluing etc I have leather covered items like old window weights and even a sledge hammer head.... So lots of economic ways other than buying an "anvil" or a special "craft" plate or what ever folks might call it to charge more. Hope this helps.
  19. Fantastic work and I even envy the quality photos themselves. What kind of phone do you have?..... joke.... x2 on the full size 1911 but them I am a sucker for (almost) anything 1911.
  20. Fair point about cost of ownership re parts and service... but butter is nice... Whay Juki do you use and for what mostly?
  21. I am aware this an apples to oranges question but: I have a line on a PFAFF 545 described in add as follows: PFAFF 545, Walking Foot Sewing Machine Reverse, New 550w Servo Motor, Newer Table Top, Table On Casters To Move Around Easily. Machine Recently tuned and Timed. Great Leather/Heavy Material Machine Can Be Tested, These Machines Were Built Tough!!!!! it is 950 Canadian and local so I can pick up. OR a Pfaff 1295 Post Bed Industrial Sewing Machine in use and excellent shape fro 1800 Canadian OBO.. also local for pick up. I understand that one is very different from the other in terms of table versus post and the 1295 looks like a much heavier duty machine with thicker thread capabilities.... but for the little and rare time I get to make a belt heavier bag etc. (I do my sheaths and holster by hand still) I am wondering which would be the best bang for the buck. I watch Ewe's video on the 1295 and started to fall in love.... but all I have seen on the 545 is impressive too. I can see the post being more versatile for strange seems and hard to get places... the table is cheaper and I am not a big production number guy.... So thoughts, experience, opinions, admonitions....?
