  1. Here are some project that I have been trying to get to for almost a year...(life!) A set of harmonica cases, a cross draw sheath, and a holster for a Crosman 2240 air pistol (with an attempt at a mahogany look i.e. not dead even but more like the wooden grips of the customer's pistol...wont know how it worked until he has it with the gun...) I will do some separate better shots when I have some time and space.
  2. Agreed on the awl size... on thicker pieces I will even run the awl to the round and stretch the whole a little.... it come back to diamond and closes up as usual. And use the trick about using the first thread threw to pull the second needle threw which is a finger saver when remembered....
  3. That's a lot of work and well worth it. Good job.
  4. Ditto Lepage Pres-Tite Green Contact Cement... but having read above I would like to also go to the other extremes and try some Weldwood... already got rid of a lot of brain cells so more room fro fumes in there...
  5. the way the gusset is attached is that there is a strip sewn to the front and back panels which points inwards - then the gusset is attached to this strip and returns outwards - creates a neat "depth" to them to my eye
  6. nice job. next one we need before during and after shots please and thanks
  7. looks like fire proof work to me... 1 Corinthians 3:13New International Version (NIV) 13 their work will be shown for what it is, because the Day will bring it to light. It will be revealed with fire, and the fire will test the quality of each person’s work.
  8. Hey I like that mules foot running beside the stich line...
  9. Nice and clean design well done. I also noticed the return on the gusset and that's a nice touch.
  10. My brain wasn't tanned it was pickled.... and dried out at the same time actually.... and now it doesn't always work correctly but at least it turns on every morning somehow! And yes I don't dream I could ever make tooling leather but something to make bags or clothes with would be fun.
  11. I have a Brother from church who runs an abattoir and some day I would like to get some fresh hides from him (small maybe sheep or goat etc) and try tanning them.... The hide on that big girl in the picture looked like velour in real life...amazing... the steers are all messed up and cover in their own crap... boys versus girls I guess....
  12. these are the man equivalent of the simple black dress... everyone should have one! Interesting about the angled belt slot. Well done and thanks for the photos and info.
  13. This is what I see every time I go outside... some see hamburgers or milk and all I see is leather!
  14. Thanks Colt... I think you once said off hand that a piece would get the "usual dunk in mop and glo" so I assume you don't really dunk... but spray apply as indicated above. Do you think sponge application would be too thick? also you say it "shines" but do you ever buff the M&G finish? and thanks again all for the feed back so far.
  15. Thanks all so far. I had wondered about the flexibility. Both projects I am considering trying it on are hard shell holster and sheaths... I guess resolene and neet-lac are both flexible finishes? Still waiting for the original mop and glow guy here to show up and I think it may have been Colt Knight I think is the handle....
  16. Hi folks, I cant fro the life of me remember or find which of you uses mop & glo to finish their work (with a little saddle soap after fro smell!)... I would like to try it and wonder if you buffed the finishes after or it retains the gloss/buffed finish to the leather below it? An confirm that it is 50/50 M&G and H2O... and do you literally "dunk" as in immerse the work or apply with a sponge/fleece? How do you avoid streaks, drios etc. if literally dunked. Also if you do buff this finish how long do you let the M&G dry before buffing? I love how it looks on your work and would like to see if I can replicate on some of current project which are at that last coat stage. Thanks in advance.
  17. the veiners look ok but the cut angle just looks off to eye. crosses the veiner and perhaps shouldn't? I love the depth you are getting. What weight leather fro the belt?
  18. Al would be pleased. Oldie timie Tandy classic!
  19. Nice design and well executed.
  20. That is very nice work. I love the butterfly. Only thing that caught my eye were the cuts in the leave seem to go the wrong way to me eye but all in all love your tooling.
  21. SOLD and thanks OLBAR70 for your patience. Hope you and the Boss have a long and successful relationship!
  22. when I had the same issue it was an almost invisible burr in the plate from a needle strike and using emery cord to smooth the needle hole solved the issue right away.
  23. A good gift from a good son! Well done. I think the cuts are OK over all but lighter maybe (not less) on the vines and ferns.
  24. Very good debut! Looking forward to your daughters pics!
  25. I usually suggest JRM but sometimes there is an issue with qty needed and the size of lots they will sell. but they are quality for sure. Looking forward to seeing your creation.
