  1. Wasn't suggesting using T-shirt on steering wheels. Would suggest using a heavier paper though. Maybe kraft paper or something similar. T-shirts are used for corset/clothes patterns...they can wear it, tape it, cut it and, ta da, pattern!
  2. I've seen corset patterns made using duct tape and an old T-shirt. Same general principle. Never would have thought of using it on a steering wheel. Neat idea.
  3. Some old saddles (and other things) at Corpus Christie Museum of Science and History. We picked a great time for a vacation. Drove through the remnants of hurricane Patricia. https://goo.gl/photos/ZX7UxQ4pSt71ZrBE8 There were no labels or tags on the saddles so I have no information on them. Sorry. Interesting trees/stands though.
  4. Bicycle wheel builders use it for spoke prep. It helps when building wheels and acts as a kind of very mild Loc-Tite when it dries. I wouldn't go near anything it was used on as an oil.
  5. Hot enough to explode bugs, humid enough to swim in. In other words normal. Web sites say 93, my outside says 104. Brought all the dogs inside. I'm just south of Beaumont.
  6. Found this in my feed on Pinterest. It's in Japanese but his work is beautiful. http://yoheifukuda.tumblr.com/
  7. I just got 71 pages.... Of course I've been gone a little while
  8. Here is a YouTube on creating a pattern with duct tape. It's for a corset but you might can adapt the techniques to a vest.
  9. Stainless. When aluminum oxidizes it leaves a whitish powder all over which may be just as bad as rusty steel.
  10. You can also go to Lowes and get the no.5 polishing compound (in a stick). It's what I use (also no.3).
  11. I learned that when making a phone case, stitch the belt loops on BEFORE you glue and stitch the sides up. Also don't use a metal headed mallet as a weight to hold the flap down while it dries. (noob here) Oh and leather shrinks so leave the form/phone in until it dries.
  12. No but I did keep and use a tub of water nearby when grinding and polishing. When my fingers got warm it got dunked.
  13. Found some old nails in the garage. Decided to try my hand at making a stamp. That's a Samsung Galaxy 3 for scale. Took about 2 hours to make it. Dremel with cut-off wheel, grinder and buffer. Couple of files. Last pic is with a Tandy B200, granted not their largest. Now I have one to do borders on belts. Assuming it works right. Might still need some polishing.
  14. I once knew a girl (who worked for Tandy) who sweared she could smell the difference between Mexican leather and US leather. I cant, sinus problems. Is there a difference? Do they process it differently? Does it really matter?
  15. I got mine at Hobby Lobby. Not that great a selection but quality plastic, not paper or cardboard.
  16. Until you can get one get yourself a couple of short one by sixes and a c-clamp. You're still holding it with your knees but it will hold the leather straight.
  17. Thanks for the links billybopp. I already had the first one and of course Tandy. Havent been to Vimeo yet.
  18. I think you would be better off using a thin piece and punching your hole pattern and then stitching or gluing it to the belt like on a real wingtip shoe. Trying to beat down the whole interior of the belt so the wingtip looks higher probably wont work.
  19. Oh, you use iPhoto. Select the pic in iPhoto and drag it to the Desktop. It will make a copy. Find that in the upload dialog and upload it.
  20. Does your file picker look like this? You should be able to select only oone file. Select "More reply Options" down next to the Post button. Click on the Attachment button.
