  1. Looks very similar to the one Tim George uses.
  2. "Odd" has a negative connotation to it and I don't think there's any reason to belittle others' methods just because someone else doesn't feel like doing it the same way. I'm not call other people's ways "odd" for doing it their way. I don't think my method (which is also used by other people as stated here) should be called "odd" or any other adjective with a negative meaning to it. I don't understand the need to put labels like that on the way some people choose to do things. If someone is compelled to do that in order to bring themselves up or reassure themselves that their way is "better" or something, then I truly feel sorry for that person.

    Custom Clicker Dies

I've also had trouble getting brand new tools that were extremely dull. I'd read the same thing about certain clicker die manufacturers. Hopefully, these will be sharp and ready to use upon receipt...if so, I will strongly consider ordering from the OP. I'd like to get some mallet dies...can't justify the expense of a press yet.
  4. On my machine, I can move the needle laterally in order to adjust where it will pierce the binding. I guess yours cannot do that? Is the binding you're using the same width as the binder is for? If it's too narrow, it may go around the edge of your work unevenly. Just a couple of thoughts...
  5. Same thing. I've read in here hundreds of times that there's no ONE right way to do something and saying we're doing something "oddly" just because we're not using a tool the way YOU approve of isn't right.
  6. Tell him there's a $30 (or whatever) each up-charge to get them without your stamp.
  7. Are these matte or glossy finish?
  8. Just because you don't want to do something a certain way is no reason to say those of us that do this are "odd". I use them on both sides of the leather and stitches on both sides then look good. There is NOTHING WRONG with doing it this way and people shouldn't be discouraged from trying it by callings them "odd" if they do.
  9. You have a name for the tool or a link to it?
  10. Your best bet would be to find out the thread pitch and size you want, then order them from mcmaster.com I order from them frequently and they have a LOT of options available for screws with allen heads available.
  11. Ok, you all keep on doing what you're doing. I'll keep stitching using the same iron on both sides and will continue to get good stitches on both sides of my work.
  12. This post is from over a year ago and there are six posts "below" yours. Which guy below are you referring to?
  13. Same here, Tom...you are just a fine gentleman. I know you already put a lot of work into these...I would really appreciate your suggestion of what weight leather to use for these awesome patterns. Would it be possible to include notes like that on the pattern? It is hard to keep up with details like that when they're not inside the pattern. I don't want to ask extra work of you...it's just an idea I had...please feel free to ignore it...
  14. Yeah, I just didn't want anyone nagging you as you're so generous to do these out of kindness...no one should be prodding you. Thank you again as always for your work on these patterns! It is very greatly appreciated!!
  15. Hey, Tom does these out of the goodness of his heart...if you nag him about it, he may not do them at all. I was hoping to make a couple of these as Christmas gifts myself, but he's busy right now. We'll get them when we get them.
  16. Actually, what you posted is a set screw. There are LOTS of allen screws with heads: http://www.mcmaster.com/#allen-screws/=uu318l Just wanted to correct that before someone thought that was right...
  17. Ok, well whatever then. The OP is the one having trouble with his stitches tearing. I don't have that problem and I use pricking irons...not whatever that thing is he's using. :)
  18. The tool you're trying to use is for edge lacing..not saddle stitching. You need a proper diamond punch, pricking iron, pricking wheel, etc. Not the one you're using.
  19. Oh. Yeah, you probably won't have that problem once you start using good quality leather.
  20. It's probably the quality of your leather. What leather did you use?

    Interweave

Well this is where I bought mine... http://www.angelfire.com/ak/skateworld/ Or you can probably borrow a copy from your local library. If they don't have it, they can probably get it through interlibrary loan. I don't think I can post the pages from the book here due to copyright restrictions.

    Interweave

It's covered on page 60 of Ron Edwards' Round Knots and Braids - Advanced Leatherwork Volume 2.
  23. I used to play that game but I got sick of getting stuck with garbage so I don't play anymore. No one where I work ever gifts anything as nice as a messenger bag.
